Precious OpalWayne Goss Precious Opal Eye Kohl Pencil ($14.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a dark brown with subtle, warm undertones and a very fine pearl throughout–it almost looked matte from a distance but had a bit of extra oomph. The texture felt smooth and a bit creamier than other shades in the formula–more like a cross between modern pencils (waxier, more silicone-heavy, like Urban Decay’s pencil eyeliners) and old school pencils (firmer, sharper). It had nearly opaque coverage in a single stroke, which deposited color evenly as I worked it against my lower lash line. It wore decently for six hours on my lower lash line but was almost faded to nothing after nine hours of wear. Formula Overview$14.00/0.04 oz. - $350.00 Per Ounce The formula is supposed to have a "fine tip" while still being able to "glide over skin with a cream-to-silk feel" that doesn't scratch, tug, or skip and can be used to line the eyes, as an "all-over base," or smudged along the lash line or applied to the waterline. It's a sharper pencil, which is a more "old school" formula compared to softer, more rounded pencils that tend to feel waxier (often containing more silicone for glide and slip). For those who like more precise, thin lines but prefer a pencil format, this type of formula is better for that. They also seemed to have more depth in the actual colors and were definitely less prone to tugging/feeling sharp compared to some I've tried in the past. They were harder for me to use on my waterline, because the sharpness of the pencil did cause my waterline to water. They had four to six hours of wear on my water line and six to seven hour wear on my lower lash line, but they were quicker to fade and two shades were barely visible after nine hours of wear. The formula yielded good coverage in a single stroke and was buildable or mostly opaque when applied with shorter, more overlapping strokes (which is really more how I apply eyeliner). Rich HazelWayne Goss Rich Hazel Eye Kohl Pencil ($14.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a deep brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff that adhered fairly evenly in a single layer but was best built up with a second layer. The texture was firmer but mostly smooth without being uncomfortable to work with on my lower lash line, though it was less comfortable on my water line. The eyeliner lasted decently for six and a half hours on my lower lash line before fading noticeably (five hours on my waterline), but there was very little left after nine hours of wear (like from a normal viewing distance, you wouldn’t know I was wearing eyeliner). ObsidianWayne Goss Obsidian Eye Kohl Pencil ($14.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a deep, true black with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque coverage in a single layer (and could be built up to mostly opaque coverage) at a comfortable pressure; I felt like to get opaque coverage, it was a bit too firm to do so comfortably (it made my waterline water at a lighter pressure). The pencil glided smoothly across my lower lash line without tugging, but it wasn’t as comfortable to use on my waterline, though it deposited color evenly. It had faded quite noticeably, though with minimal build up into the inner/outer corners, by seven hours on my lower lash line (nothing was on my waterline after six hours) and was barely visible after nine hours of wear.
