![]() All Fired UpStila All Fired Up Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow Trio ($25.00 for 0.21 oz.) includes two copper hues and a lighter, white gold shade. Two shades were quite sheer and would work best for layering or a soft wash of sparkle, while Burnished Sienna had a bit more coverage (and was more buildable) and could be used visibly as a standalone product. If you tend to pick up this formula to add sparkle or brighten an area, I think they work well for those purposes. If you’re looking for a punch of color and sparkle, you’ll likely find these lacking. I don’t find that Stila does a great job of setting expectations, as their promotional imagery shows full coverage for most of the Glitter & Glow shades with a couple (like Diamond Dust) as specifically sheer. The reality is that most shades are sheer to semi-sheer with the occasional shade (like Molten Midnight) that is more pigmented. ![]()

![]() Sunset FireSunset Fire is a light-medium copper with warm, orange undertones and flecks of gold glitter. It had sheer color payoff that was hard to build up, but the base definitely had a copper tint to it and does transform the color of any products it is layered over (may be more or less of a change depending on that the base color was!). Very occasionally, Stila will actually describe a Glitter & Glow shade as sheer, but they did not do so with this one. With the sheerness, I would recommend this for layering or for all-over application as the base was fairly translucent and didn’t seem to go on unevenly when blended out with a fingertip. The liquid eyeshadow wore well for 10 hours with a smidgen of fallout over time. Top Dupes
Formula Overview$24.00/0.15 oz. - $160.00 Per Ounce Stila says that it’s supposed to be a “long-wearing, sparkle eye shadow” in a “water-infused texture” that “dries down smoothly” with “minimal fallout.” There’s a lot to be impressed by with the formula, but there was some inconsistency in opacity and overall wateriness between shades so not all shades were equally impressive. When they’re good, they were pigmented, dried down evenly without creasing, and were long-wearing with minimal fallout. When they’re less impressive, they are more watery, semi-sheer to semi-opaque, prone to creasing as they dry down, though the wear is similar across all shades. I felt like there was less fallout with the less blending done with them, e.g. applying directly to lid and only minimally working along the edges yielded the least fallout compared to diffusing and blending out the color with a brush. If I accidentally rubbed an eye, it seemed to interfere with the integrity of the wear completely–it was like a downhill avalanche of glitter that could not be stopped. They were easiest to use as the last step in a look, patted over eyeshadow with fingertip or swiped on with the sponge applicator for more of a “cut crease” kind of effect, or used along the lash line as eyeliner (I liked using a thin, liquid eyeliner brush to get a thinner line). They removed fairly well, but it was hard to get every last bit of glitter off the skin, though it was never painful or uncomfortable to remove them. ![]() Follow the SunFollow the Sun seemed to have a nearly translucent base (possibly gold-tinted but totally lost on my skin) with a mix of platinum and gold glitter. It had sheer coverage–wish Stila would see fit to aptly describe the sheerness in this range, as they have for at least a couple of shades in the past–that did not build up. I would recommend this shade to be used for layering over another eyeshadow to add minimal color transformation but maximum finish amplification with the addition of a fair amount of glitter. The texture was lightweight, thin, and watery, but the sparkles/glitters seemed to distribute well across my skin. It lasted well for 10 hours with slight fallout over time. Top Dupes

![]() Burnished SiennaBurnished Sienna is a medium-dark, reddish copper base with flecks of large, gold glitter and finer copper sparkle. It had medium color payoff in a single layer, which I could also sheer out or build up to more opaque coverage (make sure to wait for the first layer to dry down fully). The glitter/sparkles spread evenly and dispersed well as I applied the product. The consistency was watery with a quick dry down but applied best with a secondary tool rather than its include doe-foot applicator. Once the liquid eyeshadow dried down, it stayed on well for 10 hours with a smidgen of fallout over time. Top Dupes

![]() Green MistSydney Grace Green Mist Pressed Pigment Shadow ($6.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a bright aqua green with subtle, cooler undertones and warmer, green-gold shifting shimmer. It had a very smooth, lightly creamy texture that was denser without being too firmly pressed in the pan. The eyeshadow had nearly opaque pigmentation that built up easily to full coverage with less than half of a layer more. It stayed on well for eight hours on me before fading noticeably. Top Dupes
Formula Overview$6.00/0.06 oz. - $100.00 Per Ounce The shimmer eyeshadows are more consistent in pigmentation with the majority of shades having opaque color coverage. The more metallic/sparkly the shade is, the creamier and more emollient the eyeshadow felt in the pan, which often yielded really smooth application and good adherence to the lid, though a few worked better with a fingertip or a dampened brush for true-to-pan color or to get a truer finish/sheen. Most shades, however, worked well with brushes, and I didn't have trouble applying or blending out most of the shimmer shades. The more satin to pearl like finishes tend to feel a little thinner but blend out well. These shades wore between eight and nine hours on me with some of the more foiled-like shades creasing noticeably at the end (and the less foiled-like ones fading). ![]() Indiana LoveSydney Grace Indiana Love Matte Shadow ($5.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a deep, inky blue with a satin finish. It had opaque color payoff that adhered well to bare skin and blended out fairly readily, though the deeper hue paired with the pigmentation made it take more effort than a dark brown would. The consistency was soft, slightly powdery in the pan, but I didn’t have trouble with fallout. It wore well for eight hours before I noticed any fading. Top Dupes
Formula Overview$5.00/0.06 oz. - $83.33 Per Ounce The matte eyeshadows tend to be pigmented (typically semi-opaque or opaque, often buildable if they aren't opaque) with a soft, more velvety texture that has slight slip but isn't so thick that it gets difficult to use, applies unevenly, or has a lot of fallout. I've found that most of the matte eyeshadows apply and blend out without much effort but a few may take a bit more effort to diffuse along the edges. It had good color coverage that had to be built up to get to full opacity. Michael Bublé will perform at The Pepsi Center on July 13, according to an announcement made Thursday by a representative of the venue. Bublé’s Denver performance is one of 10 additional shows announced — the second leg of a previously sold-out tour set to begin February. Bublé has won four Grammy Awards, many Juno Awards, a World Music Award and has been inducted into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame, among a plethora of other nods and awards. A Canadian singer famed for his smooth vocals, Bublé has covered songs such as “Feeling Good,” co-wrote his hit “Home” and released a wildly-popular Christmas album. Fans of jazz, easy listening, swing or, simply, quality vocals should appreciate Bublé’s upcoming date with Denver. Bublé’s “Don’t Believe the Rumors Tour” will close a four-year tour gap in the U.S., and it’s one you won’t want to miss. Tickets for the show go on sale Monday, February 11 at 10 a.m. at PepsiCenter.com. Each purchase comes with a CD or digital copy of Bublé’s new album, love.Check out the additional tour date lineup below: 7/9 – Los Angeles, CA – Staples Center

Upon arriving he was struck by the conversation regarding the influx of transplants to Colorado. “Too many times I heard of overcrowded trails, littered campsites, etc.,” Sajowitz said. He wants to get off of the sidelines and change the dialogue and create a way to get people involved. So how is he doing this? By creating Wild & Co. a brand that combines lifestyle and apparel and celebrates the outdoors. Wild & Co is a brand that wants to promote outdoor exploration and dedicated to inspiring others to discover nature’s beauty. Not only is Wild & Co. encouraging outdoor exploration, but they are also working towards protecting our national parks, forests and wild lands. 303 Magazine: What made you want to have the brand’s home in Denver? Scott Sajowitz: Denver is well known for its outdoor lifestyle and access to mountains, national parks, etc. It’s also experiencing growing pains in terms of overcrowded trails and general abuse of public lands. Spreading a positive message and educating people on trail stewardship principles 303: What was the motivation in combining both apparel and nature? SS: One of the main pillars of our brand is to get people involved, and educated. But to truly affect change it had to be through a brand that people can relate to and, identify with. There are plenty of brands with outdoor gear, but we want to give people a chance to also show that they actually care about the outdoors as well. So our apparel line ties artistic high-end designs with fun/cheeky taglines that inspire a proactive message. 303: Your campaign is “Mind the Wild” how is your campaign intertwined with your apparel? SS: Our “Mind the Wild” campaign is the rallying cry for our initiative to make a difference in nature. We designed an entire line of shirts that have eco-conscious messaging for people that want a comfy, high-end apparel line to reflect their values. And proceeds of every shirt or hat purchased go directly towards helping fund our trail clean-up events and towards our tree planting initiative through our partnership with the national forest foundation. 303: What are your thoughts on the government shutdown and have there been any challenges in organizing cleanups since the government shutdown? SS: The government shutdown was a major impact on national parks across the country. Unstaffed parks remained open and were met with a general public that would break rules, go off trail, endanger wildlife, and carelessly leave litter all over the park. Basic services for restrooms and trash pickup were suspended, leading to some very unsightly build ups. We knew this major crisis was something that we had to try and be proactive about. We actually had conversations with many organizations involved with national parks on how best to approach this situation. While there were some people that would travel to these parks to try and help (which is something we wanted to do), we instead took the advice of parks departments and focused on getting the word out to discourage people from traveling to these parks. We did have a large amount of people reach out to us looking for ways to help out and get involved which we are always thrilled to see! 303: How do you plan to combat the negative effects of the shutdown? SS: While the shutdown has ended for the short term, we will continue to work with parks departments to determine the best way to support them. With the outcry we saw from the shutdown, we think that our brand and message is more important than ever and will give people a way to get involved. It also opened our eyes to the incredible reach we have with our online presence, and we have been actively working with more groups, such as the National Parks Conservation Association, on partnerships that would allow us to impact even more projects across the country. 303: What is the best way someone can help support your brand and the message you promote? SS: We absolutely encourage everyone to come and visit us at festivals & events across Colorado starting this summer. While we are rapidly growing and expanding our apparel in stores across Colorado you can also always find our latest apparel on our website. And for those that really want to get involved, you can join us at our trail clean-up events that will be taking place in more and more locations across the state. We love meeting fellow nature lovers, and we even encourage the most enthusiastic to join our “wild seeker” ambassador program. Information for all of this can be found on our website, and you can follow us on Instagram to always be in the loop on our latest adventures. 303: When do you plan for the next cleanup, and how can someone get involved in that? SS: Our clean-ups typically run from April-Dec, and we’ll have an especially cool event planned for Earth Day! Anyone and everyone is welcome to come out, meet some cool new friends, win prizes, and enjoy the amazing Colorado weather. Follow our Instagram page, or sign up for our newsletter to make sure you don’t miss out as they fill up very fast. 303: What would you like the citizens of Colorado to know about what you are doing with your SS: We are here to promote a positive message. via https://303magazine.com/2019/01/into-the-wild-co-we-go-how-a-local-denver-brand-is-cleaning-up-our-national-parks/ Capitol Hill residents and coffee aficionados alike were devastated when Black Eye Coffee served its last cup of coffee at its Sherman Street corner location back in October 2017. But fear not — there’s a new café on the block that opened this past Tuesday. Well, it’s not really new. Anecdote Café previously launched as a bakery, bar and creative space at its old venue on Bannock Street and 9th Avenue, but was forced to relocate after less than a year upon learning their space had been sold for demolition. Emily Hurd, Owner of Anecdote, knows there are big shoes to fill from moving into the space, but she is hopeful that this new location for Anecdote will welcome customers back to the spot by giving them a space to work on their artistic passions and encourage creative conversation. ![]() Hurd says that she once visited Black Eye Coffee after moving from Vermont to work at a culinary arts program. “I just remember coming in here as I was starting to discover all the new Denver coffee shops, and I walked in here and just thought it was gorgeous. I really loved their design choices. It’s a great example of what you can do if you’re able to start from scratch and design something to be completely what you want it to be,” Hurd said. “I never thought I’d be able to be in a space like this — in the exact space — so it’s pretty crazy.” Currently, Anecdote Café is serving coffee and is still brainstorming ways to alter the space’s design and make it very different yet still true to the swanky, black, white, and gold, ‘20s-inspired style. Hurd wants readers to know that although there are similarities, Anecdote will not be a full-service restaurant, but rather a quirky café with creative cocktails, desserts, sandwiches and beverages that you can enjoy while you work. According to Hurd, Anecdote’s culture is very focused on DIY. Rather than offering specific services, the café’s goal is to evolve with its artists, entertainers and fellow makers by listening to their personal creative needs. In the short time that Anecdote was open at its old location, Hurd says many customers had ideas that she is going to offer at the new space. “We had a lot of people come up to us in the old space and tell us ‘Oh, I’ve always been interested in this, but I’ve never had any way to see if I liked it, or look into it or meet anyone else that does it.’ And we were able to connect a lot of people even in the short time we were there, which was really neat to see. We really hope to do that a lot more here,” Hurd said. “We think of it as very adaptable space for however, artists are able to use it.” ![]() In addition to introducing artists and other creatives to each other, Hurd also wants to make Anecdote a gallery space to display work from independent artists in the community and will encourage art sales. There will also be an art vending machine that sells paper, gum and utensils. She also wants to build a collapsible stage for musicians, comedians and other entertainers to perform from. There really is no limit on how to utilize the space, for your own creative purposes but Hurd emphasizes that it’s still important to make it about community. “Creative café is a term we made up ourselves and a lot of people ask us if it’s like one of those working studio spaces. But it’s not like anyone can privatize studio space in here per se, or like turn it into office space. It’s more of communal space,” Hurd said. Anecdote is planning on offering classes of all kinds to encourage collaboration and learning alongside other local artists. The classes will feature lessons teaching a variety of skills — Hurd said it could be anything from simply fun paint and sip classes to more professional classes on how to start your own art business. A lot of the classes will be taught by employees at Anecdote, including Hurd herself who says she loves to teach creative writing workshops and enjoys screen printing, textile art and painting in addition to pastry art. Hurd said she was surprised to learn that many customers wanted to learn more about the business side of being an artist. “We will offer an artist headshot day because not everyone has the opportunity or even knows the process of booking professional headshots. I personally have found a lot of people who were interested in support in that area and were asking questions like, ‘How do I sell my work? How do I market myself? What are some basic business skills I should have as an independent artist? How do I protect my work and myself?’ which are extremely important,” Hurd said. While all this sounds cool—we have to ask—where are they going to create all this art? The space on Sherman isn’t exactly huge. Apparently, Hurd has thought of that too since some of her furniture restoration, sculpture projects, and concrete and woodworking classes can tend to get a bit messy. “Our old space allowed for a little more free-for-all messiness, but because this space doesn’t allow for this as much, we’re teaming up with the Denver Tool Library, a nonprofit on Santa Fe, and will have some of our messier, bigger workshops over there,” Hurd said. ![]() We’re definitely excited to see what the future Anecdote will look like once customers start creating, but in the meantime, Hurd is preparing an eclectic menu to also get excited about. For one, we’re stoked about the café’s colorful and flavorful beverage selection. “We have all the staples of normal café service—your mochas, your lattes, your cappuccinos—but we also developed a signature series. It appeals to us as artists because they [the drinks] are all colorful,” Hurd said. Anecdote will offer a golden latte made of anti-inflammatory turmeric and ginger, a detoxifying black latte consisting of activated charcoal and dark chocolate, an ube latte that will be bright purple and filled with antioxidants and Vitamin E and a green tropical matcha latte. As for their craft cocktails, Hurd promises that they’re working with only unique flavors and fresh ingredients. “It’s not your typical bar offerings. We’ll be changing it seasonally or whenever we feel like it,” she said. Anecdote will also serve warm alcoholic drinks, beer, wine and tasty, gourmet-style sandwiches. But we’re really stoked about the bakery menu. Hurd was once head of the pasty department at a culinary resort and spa in Vermont, and she’s learned a thing or two on how to make a mean cake. “I like working with fine ingredients and putting an artistic touch on things. My specialty is more in desserts and not so much breakfast pastries, but I’m moving into that world for the context of the café space,” she said. “Besides signature desserts like opera cake and Napoleon cake and things that you don’t see at every other café, we really like our scones, but I guess our café pastry menu is beyond scones. We offer special order custom cakes. We can do fun cake decorating techniques. We do wedding cakes as well.” Anecdote may offer a lot of services, but Hurd is convinced all this originality is going to be a lot of fun. She isn’t interested in playing another conventional café. We asked her why, and it’s pretty simple. “It’s a space I always wanted to find and be a part of.” ![]() Anecdote Café is located at 820 Sherman St., Denver, CO 80203 and is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. It had more of a lightening, jelly-like effect on my lips–the swatch made it appear clearer as my skin tone came through, but on my lips, I could see how it lightened and had slight coverage (by looking at my lip freckle), which was as described (“sheer”). It had a very smooth, gel-like consistency that was comfortable to wear and non-sticky, though there was slight product in my deeper lip lines. It lasted for three hours but was hydrating while worn. Top Dupes
Formula Overview$28.00/0.15 oz. - $186.67 Per Ounce The formula is supposed to have "multidimensional shine" with a "non-sticky texture" that "nourishes" with "exceptional adherence." The opacity ranges from "opaque to transparent." The color coverage really does vary quite a bit, but most of the shades I've tried are sheer to medium in coverage--the brand could be clearer on which shades are opaque. The consistency has a smooth, lightweight texture that wasn't tacky and was comfortable to wear. For the most part, they didn't seem to sink into my lip lines, which can be a pitfall of gloss. I didn't find the wear time to be better than average--three to four hours--but the formula was moderately hydrating. There was a subtle vanilla scent but no discernible taste when worn. ![]() Peach PerversionPat McGrath Peach Perversion LUST Lip Gloss ($28.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a light-medium peach with warmer, orange undertones and flecks of peachy gold and violet shimmer. It was supposed to have sheer coverage, and I’d say it had more semi-sheer to medium coverage; my lip freckle was just barely visible but I could see more of my lip color come through in other places. The consistency felt smooth and gel-like–plusher, thicker but not heavy or sticky–and was comfortabler to wear, though this shade didn’t seem to smooth out my lip lines as much as other shades. I also noticed that it showed “lines” when I pressed my lips together. It stayed on well for four hours and was moisturizing over time. Top Dupes

It had medium pigmentation, which was as described, and covered my lips evenly but had a tendency to pull into my deeper lip lines. The shiny finish helped keep the settling less noticeable from a normal viewing distance. The gloss felt lightweight, smooth, more gel-like and was non-sticky. All three shades performed similarly; they were pigmented, long-wearing, and blendable, while the formula is slightly denser/firmer (but very smooth and finely-milled) and works better with light to moderately-dense brushes. The standard, tapered highlighting brush style works well with them but more feathery-tipped fan brushes may not pick up product as evenly as desired. ![]()

![]() Like a DreamLike a Dream is a bright, bluish-white with cool undertones and a metallic sheen. The highlighter had opaque pigmentation in one layer, which applied well to bare skin with a smooth, even application that blended out without difficulty. It didn’t emphasize my skin’s natural texture even at higher coverage levels. The texture felt soft and smooth to the touch but was a slightly denser, firmer powder (no powderiness or excess kicked up in the pan) that worked best with less feathery brushes (typical highlighter and blush brushes worked fine with it). This shade lasted well on my cheeks for eight and a half hours before it started to fade. Top Dupes

Poised to return to the venues of South Broadway July 26 – 28, The Underground Music Showcase (UMS) vows to come back bigger and better. Now in its 19th year, UMS will once again bring unconventional stages, an array of acclaimed national and local talent and a host of disarming surprises. From auto-garages to tucked away coffee shops, the all-consuming force of UMS takes over many of the local businesses lining the street, ushers in over 30,000 attendees and hundreds of bands during its three-day celebration. In addition to being one of the country’s longest-running music festivals, UMS is now Denver’s largest and most thriving festival, following the recent cancellation of Velorama and Grandoozy, making the independent music festival the must-attend event for music lovers. Two Parts — the inventive marketing agency — took over UMS last year to widespread acclaim, transforming the festival into the party of the year — and a completely immersive way to engage with Denver’s burgeoning music scene. Last year’s edition was headlined by Alvvays, Digable Planets and Deerhunter and others, and featured breakout performances from the likes of Dead Latin, Chloe Tang and many more. Last year’s iteration also introduced three new outdoor stages in addition to the Main Stage — the Comedy Stage, Imagination Stage — which catered an immersive and inventive music experience — and Sesh Stage, where Colorado craft beer was given the spotlight alongside the bands that played on it. This year’s edition will continue that trend, adding additional outdoor stages, more interactive concepts and a new festival footprint involving new stage locations. While lineup and on sale dates are yet to be announced, you’ll want to save the date, because this festival is not one to miss. We will update the article accordingly, as info continues to roll in.
