![]() Fenty GlowFenty Beauty Fenty Glow Face, Lip, & Body SetFenty Beauty Fenty Glow Face, Lip, & Body Set ($42.00 for 0.49 oz.) is a new, limited edition trio that features a full-size cream blush and lipgloss along with a miniature-sized highlighter. All are after the “Fenty Glow” shade, which first debuted in lipgloss format (included in the set). The cream blush and lipgloss were lovely and consistent with my past experiences with both formulas, while the highlighter could have applied more easily.

![]() Fenty GlowFenty Glow is a light-medium, peachy brown with warm, terracotta undertones and a natural sheen. The cream blush had buildable coverage from semi-sheer to semi-opaque (two to three layers) that applied well to bare skin as well as over foundation as it did not lift it. The texture was lightly emollient, cream-like but not too tacky or thick. It lasted nicely for nine hours before fading visibly. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes
Formula Overview$20.00/0.1 oz. - $200.00 Per Ounce The formula is supposed to give a "fresh wash of color" that is "effortless" to blend with a "natural-looking" finish. The coverage is designed to be "sheer, buildable" with a "sweat- and water-resistant formula." The brand recommends to apply with fingertips or their 125 brush (which is a fairly dense, angled brush). The coverage was definitely buildable with a tendency toward semi-sheer coverage, but the intensity depended on application method. The best way to describe was that by the time you applied and blended out one layer, it often looked like that "fresh wash of color" it was marketed as having, but I'd argue they were closer to semi-sheer to medium, buildable coverage than true, sheer coverage. It was very readily built up to more intense, more opaque coverage with a second or third layer. It layered beautifully, too, so achieving higher coverage was easy to do and was still as flattering on the skin as one layer. If you took a fingertip and swirled it around at least once, you'd get higher coverage, but it would diffuse a bit to more semi-sheer to medium coverage depending on the shade. With a few taps of a moderately-dense, angled brush (like they paired with this formula), one could get more semi-sheer to medium coverage in a single layer. A stippling brush was most consistent at yielding a sheer wash of color, whereas fingertip application tended to be more medium coverage. That being said, they had the kind of pigmentation that seems pigmented initially but does have a tendency to sheer out in real application, so finger swatches alone are better as insight into potential opacity but not one layer opacity; the blended out swatch is a better indicator of as-applied to cheeks coverage. I still think they were more pigmented than described, but the formula was very forgiving so they could be used with a lighter hand (like one pat or tap with fingertip/brush) for true, sheer coverage if desired. The formula played well with fingertips as well as brushes, though I preferred fingertips as they're really just such a handy, efficient tool for cream-based formulas like these (and one less brush to wash!). I didn't have any issues applying and diffusing out the edges of the blush over bare skin or over foundation (I paired them with Fenty's Pro Filtr, which is popular but also more matte, so made for a good test base) as it did not lift up base products. The consistency was more in line with a traditional cream blush; it was emollient and felt wet to the touch in the compact, and it remained emollient when it was applied to my skin. It did not turn to powder as soon as it came into contact with my skin, but it did dry down for the most part. I felt like there was very fine, barely-there pearl through most shades (some had obvious shimmer) which gave the illusion of dewiness, because when I touched the final application, it seemed dry to the touch but absolutely had that "natural-looking"--read: skin-like--finish advertised. They wore between eight and nine hours before fading a bit, and they seemed to have a nice, even fade beyond that range. They seemed water-resistant as they didn't bleed when I ran swatches under water, but you could certainly wipe the product away with light rubbing so it wasn't impervious (resistant implies just that, resistant, but not impervious!). ![]() Fenty GlowFenty Glow is a medium, rosy copper base with flecks of gold and copper sparkle, both finer and larger in size. The texture was lightly emollient to the touch, thin but smooth and a bit denser–the consistency still felt a little dry to me, though. It’s not the easiest product to pick up on a brush for application; it tends to go on best with a fingertip as everything else doesn’t seem to grab product. The formula is supposed to have a “veil” of sparkle, which was true; it was semi-sheer with moderate sparkle and a hint of color. It wore decently for eight hours but some sparkles migrated over time. Top Dupes

![]() Fenty Glow (Universal)Fenty Glow (Universal) is a muted, medium coral with strong, warm orange undertones and a pearly finish paired that was very shiny and glossy. The texture was smooth, plush, and cushion-like, so it helped to soften lip lines and felt particularly comfortable to wear. It had semi-sheer to medium coverage that lasted well for four hours and felt very hydrating. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Formula Overview$19.00/0.3 oz. - $63.33 Per Ounce The formula is supposed to have a “peach-vanilla” scent (I’d agree–sweet, lightly fruity) and be “conditioning.” It was designed to be worn alone or layered over other lip products. The consistency was very smooth, light-to-medium in weight, non-sticky, and comfortable to wear. It had a plusher consistency that helped it stay out of most of my lip lines. The shimmer was moderate but noticeable, and it distributed evenly across the lips. They last about three hours on my lips but are hydrating. It had nearly opaque color coverage that adhered well to my lips with an even lay down of product that was forgiving of imperfections. The consistency felt lightweight and thin with more of a velvety glide than traditional creaminess, though there was some shine still present initially. It stayed on nicely for over six hours and felt lightly hydrating while worn. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes
Formula Overview$39.00/0.07 oz. - $557.14 Per Ounce The formula is supposed to have a "luminous, glowing matte finish" and help to "smooth" and "moisturize" lips. It is silent on coverage, though promotional images by the brand show full coverage. It is also supposed to be "long-lasting" and "creamy." I can see what they mean by a "glowing" matte finish; it's more of a modern matte--not as flat or as dry-looking as matte lipsticks from many years ago. Sometimes, it seems like brands are just afraid to use the term satin or semi-matte, though! They have a semi-matte finish--less shiny in person--with subtle pearl that looks less like shimmer in person and more of that "glowing" finish as described. The texture was more velvety, so it didn't feel as wet as a traditional lipstick, but it still glided readily across my lips. I found that it had a tendency to pill a little when swatched on my arm, but most shades did not have any issue like that when applied to my actual lips. This is rare, but I have had that happen where a product was clearly designed for lip skin over skin-skin! They wore between five and seven hours, depending on the shade; deeper, richer shades (like a red) tended to last longer than lighter shades (like a peach or lighter brown). They were more on the non-drying to lightly hydrating side. Browse all of our YSL Slim Glow Matte Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick swatches. FaceRare Beauty Lip Souffle Matte Cream LipstickThe formula is supposed to be an "air-whipped lip cream" with "rich, melted-in color" paired with "nourishing hydration." Fenty Beauty Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream BlushThe formula is supposed to give a "fresh wash of color" that is "effortless" to blend with a "natural-looking" finish. The coverage is designed to be "sheer, buildable" with a "sweat- and water-resistant formula." The brand recommends to apply with fingertips or their 125 brush (which is a fairly dense, angled brush). Read more... Fenty Beauty Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream BronzerThe formula is supposed to be "non-greasy," "sweat-resistant," "easy to blend" cream bronzer (or contour) with "sheer, buildable" coverage that has a "natural-looking" finish. Pat McGrath Divinyl Lip ShineThe formula is supposed to offer "mirror-esque" shine with "rich color" that has a lot of "hydration." It's part of the brand's Lip Fetish range, which is a lip balm-based formula, but these appear to be the higher coverage offering within the various finishes available. They have a smooth, balm-like feel--light glide but not overly slippery, lightweight, and comfortable to apply and to wear. Read more... Sephora Rouge LacquerThe lipstick is supposed to have a "silky smooth melting formula" that yields "intense long-lasting color and high-shine" with "instant hydration." Most shades were creamy without being so slippery that they felt that way or went on unevenly. They do melt quickly, though, so if they are left in a warmer area (with all my photography lights running) and applied, they feel substantially creamier than at room temperature (about 72 degrees). Sephora Lipstories LipstickThe formula is supposed to be "lightweight" with "full-coverage color in one swipe." Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Lip LuminizerThe formula is supposed to have a “peach-vanilla” scent (I’d agree–sweet, lightly fruity) and be “conditioning.” It was designed to be worn alone or layered over other lip products. The consistency was very smooth, light-to-medium in weight, non-sticky, and comfortable to wear. It had a plusher consistency that helped it stay out of most of my lip lines. The shimmer was moderate but noticeable, and it distributed evenly across the lips. In the past, I’ve often purchased and re-reviewed to ensure consistency and to feel 100% confident about inclusion in any gift guides. A lot of those sets have actually been very consistent in quality/color, particularly lip products, which dominate the sets I’ve re-reviewed in the past! In an effort to review a wider breadth of brands and products, I’ve decided to do less re-reviewing. I thought I’d share a list of makeup sets this year that caught my attention–good assortment, good value, or a good way to try a more expensive formula–and link to past reviews. Skincare sets are more prevalent this year, and though I don’t write a lot of formal, reviews, I routinely test new skincare products throughout the year for end-of-the-year award purposes — so I’ve included some of the kits that include products I’ve enjoyed and/or from brands that I regularly use!
Are there any holiday sets that have caught your eye or that you picked up? Some favorites bundled up at a discount? Makeup Sets & KitsBecca Prismatica Light Essentials KitBecca Prismatica Light Essentials Kit ($35.00, $66 value) includes three miniature-sized (but still a respectable amount for each!) highlighters in Champagne Pop, Vanilla Quartz, and Rose Quartz, which I have reviewed previously. I’ve found that as long as the re-released shade isn’t in a palette, it is usually pretty consistent with the original release’s performance. Clinique Almost Lipstick DuoClinique Almost Lipstick Duo ($9.50, $25 value) includes Black Honey and Pink Honey. Clinique releases this kit nearly every year, so I reviewed both of these shades in kit-form previously here. Dior Mini Rouge Dior Lipstick SetDior Mini Rouge Dior Lipstick Set ($50.00) includes four, miniature-sized lipsticks (all from the permanent range). As long as one can abide by the floral scent of the Dior lipstick range and doesn’t mind that they don’t live up to a 16-hour wear claim (c’mon!), the set offers a way to trial the formula or enjoy four shades for less than the cost of two full-sized ones. Givenchy Mini Le Rouge Lipstick SetGivenchy Mini Le Rouge Lipstick Set ($50.00, $67 value) includes four, miniature-sized Le Rouges in four bestselling shades (all reviewed previously). Le Rouge has been a long-time favorite of mine — see shades previously reviewed here! Laura Mercier Mini Stargazer Stick QuartetLaura Mercier Mini Stargazer Stick Quartet ($35.00, $70 value) includes four, miniature-sized twist-up cream eyeshadows in the shades Amethyst, Au Naturel, Magnetic Pink, and Intense Rosegold. I’ve reviewed these kits in the past, and they’re usually pretty good–occasionally something is slightly more emollient than the last time but not in a way that dramatically alters performance. You can browse my Caviar Stick reviews here. Rare Beauty Mini Lip Souffle DuoRare Beauty Mini Lip Souffle Duo ($15.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) includes two, miniature-sized liquid lipsticks–which were some of the top-performing products from Rare Beauty’s debut–which are perfect for trying. It’s a very pigmented formula, so even the minis will last a good, long while. View Rare Beauty reviews here. Rare Beauty Lip & Cheek SetRare Beauty Lip & Cheek Set ($28.00) includes four miniature-sized products: two liquid blushes, one lip balm, and one liquid lipstick. It’s a nice way to try the range–and all of the products included are “a little goes a long way” kind of products–in a more affordable way. View Rare Beauty reviews here. YSL Mini Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick SetYSL Mini Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick Set ($50.00, $76 value) includes four, miniature-sized lipsticks from the permanent range. It’s a comfortable, more pigmented formula that is lightweight, lightly hydrating, and has decent longevity. View Rouge Pur Couture reviews here. YSL Rouge Volupte Shine Lipstick Set ($160.00) includes five, full-sized Rouge Volupte Shines (bringing them down to $32 each instead of $38 a pop). It’s a popular formula for those who like glossier, more luminous lipstick color that still offers medium to higher color coverage. View Rouge Volupte Shine reviews here. Skincare Sets & KitsBiossance Let It Glow SetBiossance Let It Glow Set ($25.00, $60 value) includes two products” Squalane + Lactic Acid Night Serum and Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil. Squalane is one of my go-tos for hydration, and Biossance is usually in my rotation as a result as they really embrace that particular ingredient! First Aid Beauty All That FABFirst Aid Beauty All That FAB ($49.00, $127 value) includes five, bestselling First Aid Beauty products. Longtime readers will know that FAB is a brand I’ve used often and regularly. Their Ultra Repair Cream is always stocked in my household (my husband does use it more than me since I flit between moisturizers like a commitment-phobe). This is an excellent way to try their popular products without breaking the bank–and they’re not tiny sample-sizes, either. Check out more First Aid Beauty setsFirst Aid Beauty sets. Jack Black The Balm SquadJack Black The Balm Squad ($25.00, $32 value) includes four, full-sized lip balms including two new, limited edition scents. I’ve shared my love for this lip balm in the past, and it’s still one I regularly use. It’s the one we have floating around in various drawers and desks. I use it more during the day than at night (I use something the heavier/tackier), but it’s still one of my favorites for on-the-go and daytime use as it’s smooth, non-sticky, comfortable and hydrating while feeling plush. I always pick up one of the holiday sets! Belif Moisturizing Bomb Holiday SetBelif Moisturizing Bomb Holiday Set ($38.00, $54 value) includes four products designed for hydration: The True Cream Moisturizing Bomb (1.68 oz.), Aqua Bomb Hydrating Toner (0.67 oz.), Moisturizing Eye Bomb (0.17 oz.), and Aqua Bomb Cleansing Balm (0.30 oz.). I’m a huge fan of the belif Moisturizing Bomb range, particularly the cream, and this is probably a set I’ll end up snagging at some point myself. More Sets & KitsFragrance is so personal, but the holiday season is a great time to pickup gift sets of one’s favorite scents or to trial the scents of a brand you’ve been interested in or perhaps have only tried one (but loved that one!) scent from in the past. Here are some quick links to retailers’ to browse the holiday fragrance sets…

His love of sprawling collectives where individual proprietors served unique and unpretentious menus generally centered around one or two fabulously-prepared items is well-known. The legacy he left as a champion of culinary democratization was neatly laid out in his unabashed admiration of spaces that let individuals shine as part of a greater and somehow more noble summation. Today’s landscape is decidedly different than the one he last described in 2018, but it’s likely that he would have appreciated NTMRKT. Orchestrated by KREAM Kimchi‘s Virgil Dickerson, NTMRKT has organized some of the best in Denver street food for a monthly convergence centered around cuisine-bending food trucks, pasta-pressers, sauce-makers, thrifters, musicians and artisans, with the whole lot eager to collaborate. While Bourdain understandably envisioned a material space, Dickerson has imagined a disembodied and amorphous collective hellbent on introducing and amplifying some of Denver’s finest untethered new voices and talent. Click to view slideshow.“This whole thing reminds me of when I first got into DIY punk rock. We’re trying to build this community so everybody can be more successful,” said Dickerson. Born from an August collaboration between KREAM, Ladybird Vintage, Oh Golly Dumpling, Milky.Wav and Fort Greene entitled Little Greene Mart, the project officially launched as NTMRKT with an inaugural event over Labor Day Weekend and has since grown steadily and organically with each passing month. “Most of the people I’ve brought onto this were just people I met starting KREAM,” he continued. NTMRKT has already conducted several iterations at Fort Greene, with a pop-up at CRUSH Walls’ Voodo Ranger Clubhouse and an upcoming event on Larimer further extending its reach. “If the pandemic has shown us anything, it’s probably better not to have a permanent location,” said Dickerson. “With NTMRKT, there’s a destination where people can buy stuff they weren’t expecting to buy and eat food they can’t find anywhere else.” Click to view slideshow. While some participants are established concepts, many of the involved groups are new businesses that sprung as a direct result of the pandemic. “People are trying to make their side hustle their main hustle. If any of these people turn their side hustle into their main gig, I’d like it if this could be a part of that,” said Dickerson. Yuan Wonton has been a staple, with Penelope Wong’s army of the pre-order savvy coming for the dumplings and staying for the fresh wares from the likes of Amada Artesania and efta. “Having Yuan has been a huge feather in our cap. Her followers love everything about NTMRKT,” grinned Dickerson. This speaks to a general trend — despite the seemingly haphazard assembly, there’s a clear unifying undercurrent across the disparate contributors. The talent is raw, and people are hungry to present their unfiltered vision. The revolving cast has begun developing some usual suspects — Yuan, Samosa Shop, Chimichurri Bros and Linji Market have all made multiple appearances — though many of the participants have been exclusive to each event. “If you look around it doesn’t look like a normal Denver event,” said Dickerson, noting the wide demographic range of the attendees. “You’ve got farmers’ markets, but a Korean kid from Aurora isn’t going to go to that,” he continued. The sheer breadth of the involved sellers leaves room for both novelty and familiarity to be achieved regardless of perspective. “I have no illusions of making it the next Lollapalooza. But I would like to make a space for local makers to make some money,” he said. To supplement the gatherings, social media has played a large role in facilitating the kind of mutually-beneficial promotion so vital to these new enterprises. Click to view slideshow.Dickerson’s community-building approach that favors both buyers and retailers has created a fruitful atmosphere for everyone involved. With the November edition planned for Fort Greene, the project is tentatively set to continue indoors — safety permitting. This Friday’s event on Larimer will feature contributions from Ratio Beerworks, The Block, Finn’s Manor, Odell Brewing, Barcelona Wine Bar as well as a long list of vendors. “Come hungry. Come with a couple dollars in your pocket and you’ll leave full and with something you didn’t plan on having,” smiled Dickerson. NTMRKT’s next event takes place on Friday, October 30 from 5 – 9 p.m. on Larimer St. between 29th and 30th, a full list of participants can be found on its Instagram. The following one is slated for November 6 and 7 from 5 – 9 p.m. at Fort Greene. All photography by Adrienne Thomas. via https://303magazine.com/2020/10/ntmrkt-denver/ |
