![]() Divine Rose IIPat McGrath Divine Rose II Mothership Eyeshadow Palette ($125.00 for 0.47 oz.) is a new, 10-pan palette that features eight shimmery shades and two matte shades. All of the shades performed consistently with the brand’s past formulas; the domed shades, which are often called the “special” shades by fans have a denser, firmer feel but are blendable and easy to work with. The mattes were denser, more substantial, and very pigmented but both were even easier to work with than some past mattes. Skinshow Rose Opal was a little thicker in texture, which was one of very few “cons” across the palette. Last I heard, while watching one of the brand’s Instagram lives, it was undetermined whether this palette was going to be permanent or not (Sephora will carry the black packaging and has that marked as limited edition). It’s still in stock while I’m writing this–the evening prior to it being published!–which shows that, hopefully, the brand has improved their inventory since last fall!

Divine Rose II Looks![]() Skinshow Rose OpalSkinshow Rose Opal has a soft, peachy gold base with iridescent, pink-to-violet shifting pearl. The texture was denser and a little thicker, which I found made it work better with flat, shader brushes rather than anything fluffy, as fluffier brushes didn’t distribute and smooth out the product as well. It had excellent pigmentation that did spread and blend well so long as I used the right brush. There was fading present after nine hours of wear. Formula Overview$25.00/0.04 oz. - $625.00 Per Ounce Pat McGrath's eyeshadows are, generally, supposed to be "super-saturated" with "creamy, soft textures" and "extreme blendability and adherence without creasing." A lot of how well they perform (and to some degree, how they are supposed to be applied and marketed) depends on the type of shades, but by and large, the eyeshadows perform very much as they are described. The brand released single eyeshadows in March 2019, and the shades have been consistent in quality, look, and feel. They are not removable, unfortunately, so one would have to depot like any other single eyeshadow--I tried using tweezers and lifting on several shades to no avail. The lids are held closed by a weak magnet, so I'm not sure they're as secure as most single eyeshadow compacts in my stash--I wish it really locked in, but there's definitely a magnet that pulls the lid down if it's within 2mm of the base. The mattes are velvety, blendable, and dense without being thick or too heavy, and they have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation where a little can go a long way with some of the deeper and richer hues. The satin and pearl finishes are smooth, lightly creamy, and firmer but not dense or thick with good pigmentation, blendability, and easy application. The more metallic finishes tend to be softer, creamy, and smooth with a bit more denseness and no powderiness. The sparkly/glittery shades are often designed to be applied wet for richer coverage or intensity, which has largely been my experience. Most of the shades last between eight and nine hours. ![]() Naked BlushNaked Blush is a dusty, medium coral with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out easily. It seemed to be a bit more pigmented when I applied it than the initial swatch, and it wasn’t prone to sheering out during application. The consistency was more velvety, dense and substantial without being so thick that it became difficult to apply or had heavy fallout. It lasted well for nine hours before fading noticeably. ![]() Bronze Rose 005Bronze Rose 005 is a muted, medium copper with warm, more orange undertones with faint pink and gold shimmer woven more seamlessly through the metallic finish. It seemed like it might be a shade that shifted, but I didn’t detect any myself. The eyeshadow had opaque color coverage in a single layer, which adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out well along the edges. The texture was smooth to the touch and felt a little more baked, so it was firm without being too dense or difficult to pick up; it seemed slightly less yielding compared to most of the brand’s eyeshadows, though. It wore nicely for nine hours before fading slightly. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes

![]() Gold Lust 001Gold Lust 001 is a medium-dark gold with moderate, warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It was a bit more sparkly and less metallic than most of the brand’s golds, though by no means a drastic departure from the half dozen (or more) already released to-date. The texture was smooth to the touch, slightly firmer and dense (so not powdery at all) but not stiff to work with, so the product picked up well with a dry brush and yielded full coverage in a single layer. This shade lasted well for 10 hours before fading a bit but had a smidgen of fallout over time. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). It had opaque color coverage in a single pass, which adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out nicely along the edges. The color started to show signs of fading after 10 hours of wear, and while it was listed as a Pressed Pigment (aka not intended for the immediate eye area), it didn’t seem to stain my eye area. ![]() VR SextraterrestrialVR Sextraterrestrial is a multi-chrome that shifted from warmer, mauvy-plum to warmer pink-copper to olive-green. Straight on, it looked rosier and pinker, and then at certain angles or under certain lighting situations, the greener edge was apparent. The greener edge sometimes look warmer, more olive and cooler, more forest green twinkles. It had a bright, metallic finish that applied with opaque coverage as as shiny and intense of a finish regardless of dry or wet application. The shift was very noticeable in person; I didn’t have to contort my body to see it on myself, and it wasn’t something only onlookers could see! I could look at myself in the mirror and just tilt my head slightly and see the edge turn green or watch the green sparkles shift as a I moved. The eyeshadow applied evenly, blended out with ease, and lasted nicely for 10 hours before fading a bit. FYI, multi-chromes are more popular with indie brands, like Fyrinnae and Sydney Grace (for brands I’ve covered). Check out /r/indiemakeupandmore if you want to explore the world of multichromes. They are often $10+ even from indie brands, but if this is the one and only shade calling your name, maybe it’s time to give an indie a shot ? ![]() Astral Pink MoonAstral Pink Moon seemed to have a translucent base packed with peachy-gold shimmer and sparkle with larger flecks of pink and gold throughout. Per the brand, the shade is best applied with fingertips and built up as desired, which seemed to reflect its coverage; it was semi-sheer to medium, buildable applied with a dry brush and semi-opaque and buildable with a fingertip (or dampened brush). The consistency was as smooth as you might expect for something that was more shimmer/sparkle–like I could tell it was a more sparkly shade, but it wasn’t particularly chunky or gritty in feel. It had slight fallout during application if applied with a dry brush. The color applied evenly when pressed and patted into place–whether using fingertips or a brush–with good dispersion of the sparkles when blended lightly. It wore well for nine hours with slight fallout over time. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes
