When Avanti first opened in Denver in July of 2015, it was still something of a novelty. As part of the first wave of the now ubiquitous Colorado food halls, Avanti’s LoHi location — founded by Patrick O’Neill, Rob Hahn and Brad Arguello (who is no longer with the project) — helped pave the way with a model that favored relatively frequent turnover and a consistent willingness to support experimental concepts. Several of the city’s best-loved spots — including ventures from the teams behind Restaurant Olivia, Chicken Rebel and Bamboo Sushi — all benefitted from their time blossoming in one of the space’s converted shipping containers. “We worked on it for about three years before opening,” said O’Neill. On October 3, Avanti will open its second location on the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder. Originally slated to be open in late spring or early winter of this year, the project is the culmination of two years of planning and development and clearly draws from all the best aspects of the original. The new hall includes six concepts — two imports from Denver and four originals. Quiero Arepas — the first concept O’Neill ever signed — is currently the single crossover between the two cities. “We used one shipping container as an homage,” he said. Rye Society is seeing its second location, with Boychik, Pig and Tiger, Rooted Craft Kitchen and New Yorkese each debuting as part of a seriously talent-stacked roster. Method Coffee has been tapped to bring the brew. Click to view slideshow.Of the six opening stalls, each has a lease ranging from one to three years, a much longer tenure than was initially introduced at the founding location. “Even in Denver, we’ve moved away from as much rotation as we had originally,” said O’Neill. Despite the longer durations speaking to a trend towards stability, Avanti Boulder will still act as an incubator. “We do want to get to that point where we get some new concepts annually,” he continued. While the first Avanti seemed to be more of a testing ground, the selections at Avanti Boulder are clearly the result of deliberate curation. “A lot of the concepts reached out to me. We tasted a lot of concepts and a lot of great ones didn’t make it,” said O’Neill. Even as the food is mostly comprised of new projects, Beverage Director Chris Stotts is hoping to mirror the drink programs between the two locations. “We’re the clubhouse in the Highlands, we want to be the clubhouse here,” said Stotts. Cocktails are set to remain identical all the way down to price point, with Stotts introducing a more robust wine program for Boulder’s grape-savvy clientele. He says that popular bottles will quickly pop up on the Denver menu. Below is a quick rundown of what diners can expect to look forward to. BoychikClick to view slideshow. The Lowdown: Boychik is the new modern Middle Eastern eatery from Charlie Troup and Chase and Melissa Devitt. Being friends since childhood, Troup and Chase have enjoyed tangential careers, with Troup holding managerial positions at Vail’s Mountain Standard, Sage Restaurant Group, Dairy Block, Departure and most recently Safta. Chase followed an undergraduate at the University of Colorado Boulder with a four-year stretch as the kitchen manager at the Dark Horse before uprooting to attend culinary school at Le Cordon Bleu in Las Vegas. He’s since had multi-year stints cooking at Park Hyde in Beaver Creek and Oak at Fourteenth in Boulder and still acts as managing partner of Brider. The menu itself was largely inspired by a culinary tour taken by Troup in Israel — organized by Safta to properly expose its employees to the cuisine and evidenced by the prominently displayed spice wrack. Pita wraps, stacked hummus bowls and a selection of dips and salads are joined by smoothies — including tahini date and the utterly luscious pineapple mango. The fried cauliflower hummus ($12) — with ras el hanout, dates and mint — is as pleasing to the eyes as it is to the palate. Pig and TigerClick to view slideshow. The Lowdown: Pig and Tiger is the new Taiwanese concept from chefs Darren Chang and Travis Masar. Named after Chang and Masar’s respective signs in the Chinese Zodiac, the stall serves a selection of hand-cut noodles, Taiwanese buns, small plates, mixed rice dishes, dessert and drinks. Both chefs have impressive careers spanning kitchens in Colorado and Los Angeles. Chang worked under Carrie Baird at Brazen and Kevin Grossi at The Regional, citing a stage for Tommy Lee at Uncle being instrumental to getting his cooking career started. Masar — a Colorado native — graduated from Johnson and Wales in Denver before acting as the opening executive chef at Uncle, later competing in Season 11 of Top Chef in New Orleans. It wasn’t until the two met while working together under Shirley Chung at Ms Chi Cafe in Los Angeles that they hatched the scheme to open Pig and Tiger. Originally planned as a Denver-based brick and mortar, the two still hope to relocate whenever the opportunity is a bit more stable. Buns are available with pork belly, Sichuan hot chicken or a seasonal veggie option. The pork belly (the O.G.) comes with pickled mustard greens and cilantro, the meat expertly prepared to gelatinous perfection. A vegetable dumpling will rotate monthly, the opening edition is filled with finely chopped fai lan, spinach and lemon then garnished with watermelon radish. The cold sesame noodles — with housemade sesame sauce, mixed seasonal vegetables, pickles, cilantro and the house-made chili crisp — is one of the most inspired items on the menu, the blend readily encouraging greedy slurping. The brown sugar milk tea — a popular Taiwanese play on the classic — is available with or without boba. Deserts include mochi doughnuts, a corn popsicle with miso syrup and a Fortune Krispie — with crushed fortune cookie, Rice Krispie, marshmallow, brown butter and fortunes that draw wisdom from modern sages including Ron Swanson. Quiero ArepasClick to view slideshow. The Lowdown: Quiero Arepas — the Venezuelan concept from husband and wife team Igor and Becky Parasewicz — began selling arepas in the farmers’ markets of Denver 10 years ago, opening as a food truck in 2011 and following with its original stall at Avanti in 2015. “We can’t believe this is our third shop,” the duo said, clearly thrilled to see the business get this far. “I’m not a chef, I’m not a businessman, I’m just a dude,” smiled Igor. Serving arepas in the style of “Caracas in the ’80s” Quiero delivers traditional fare from Igor’s native Venezuela. Thick arepas are made from corn flour from Producto Alimenticio Nacional, a brand that is quintessential to the Venezualan classics and has since been outlawed in the country under Maduro over political disputes. “If it’s not this dough, I don’t make arepas,” said Igor. The pabellon ($12.99) — with stewed and shredded beef, muenster cheese, black beans, fried plantains and guasacaca — is the national dish of Venezuala, though Igor says it never really was used as filling for arepas until arepa-makers emigrated, combining the two as an homage to the homeland. More classic styles with chicken, queso and ham and cheese are also available alongside fresh seasonal juices. Rooted Craft KitchenClick to view slideshow. The Lowdown: Hot on the trail of Vesta‘s closure, former executive chef Nick Kayser is debuting Rooted Craft Kitchen, focusing on local and seasonal produce and sustainably sourced meats. “We want a very simple and straightforward approach to food,” said Kayser. “I’m a huge proponent of the Slow Food movement. But I’m a very firm believer that the movement doesn’t have to be slow,” he continued. Sourcing from Cure, Kilt Farms and Acres at Warren Technical College, Kayser is also excited to be stationed just blocks from the Boulder Farmers’ Market. This will be just the first Rooted — with plans on opening in Del Mar, Scottsdale and Austin in the coming year. The menu is divided into both market and craft, with the market favoring rotating veggie-forward dishes and the craft comprising a more consistent list of American staples. The baby heirloom caprese ($8) comes with pistachio pesto and cashew ricotta and might be the most beautifully-plated item in the entire food hall. The Dirty South Fried Chicken ($17) comes with white and dark heirloom chicken, Brussels slaw, sweet corn elote and jalapeno barbecue sauce. Kayser also founded the Zero Proof Dinner Series, an ongoing project meant to spread awareness about the connection between mental health and drinking in the service industry. The series went on to present the first non-alcoholic dinner ever hosted at the Beard House. Three rotating zero-proof concoctions complete the menu, with the Straw-N-Peppa ($6) — with strawberry-black pepper shrub and Fever-Tree club soda — and the My Cherry Amore ($6) — with stone fruit shrub, cherry and Fever Tree club soda — providing a delicious alternative for anyone seeking a sophisticated beverage sans booze. Rye SocietyClick to view slideshow. The Lowdown: Rye Society opened its first location in Rino two years ago, with co-owners Jerrod Rosen and Josh Golberd and culinary director Ken Bell giving the neighborhood its first taste of a real Jewish deli. Rosen — a Boulder native — has been relishing the opportunity to open in his home town. While Rye Society favors traditional fare, the execution reflects Rosen’s culinary resume — which includes graduating from the French Culinary Institute, a tenure at Per Se in New York and opening Colt and Gray as general manager. Most of the menu is identical to the one in Denver. Sandwiches including the 18 +1 ($15.50) — with steamed pastrami, slaw, Russian dressing and swiss — and the Rye Reuben ($15.50) — with seemed corned beef, swiss, kraut and Russian dressing — are present. Rosen noted that the two popular sandwiches make up roughly 70% of the original location’s business. Of the few new items, the Jewish Nachos ($9) — with bagel chips, pastrami, melted swiss, pickled red onions, slaw and Russian dressing — are one of the most unmissable items in the whole hall. On the healthier side, Dr. Rosen’s Feel Good Bowl ($13) — designed by Rosen’s medical professional sister — comes with roasted sweet potatoes, curry-roasted cauliflower, mushrooms, kale, avocado, quinoa, toasted pumpkin seeds and a tamari carrot vinaigrette. New YorkeseClick to view slideshow. The Lowdown: New Yorkese is the new pizza joint from Steven Redzikowski — the owner of Oak at Fourteenth and former chef at the now-shuttered Acorn at the Source. While the other stalls all share the first floor, New Yorkese is situated on the fourth-floor rooftop — the crown-jewel of the entire redevelopment and arguably one the finest rooftops in the city. Originally planning a brick and mortar, Redzikowski switched gears after seeing the space. The menu is short and sweet — small plates, a range of burrata and pizza are joined by just one dessert. Combining influences from both Neopolitan and New York-style pies, the restaurant acts as something of a homecoming for a chef mostly known for his fine-dining ventures. “My first gig was pizza,” he said. The crust is a combination of King Arthur bread flour, and rye and spelt flours milled by nearby Dry Storage every week. Ingredients from Red Wagon Farms and River Bear Meats continue the locavore trend. Burrata ($10) is available with pistachio and basil pesto, Calabrian chili and piquillo peppers, oven-roasted tomato and basil or olive oil and Castelvetrano olive. Pizzas range from $10 – 15 and are best enjoyed by one to two people. The Della ($14) — with mozzarella, mortadella and pistachio pesto — reflects the strength of the whole concept, gleaming with well-executed simplicity. Avanti Boulder is located at 1401 Pearl St., Boulder. It will be open every day from 11 a.m. – 11 p.m., with plans to extend the hours to 1 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday when safety regulations allow. Seeing a show at Red Rocks comes with its own set of rituals. Waiting in a long line to park, empathizing with showgoers while climbing steep hills, and scouring a crowded GA section to find an open seat. There is much that accompanies a Red Rocks show, but those rituals are all tied to people. When only a little over 150 tickets are sold to a venue that seats over 9,000 people, it is easy to miss those rituals. Heading to Fitz and the Tantrums’ livestream and limited in-person performance Friday at Red Rocks, there was no line, there was no empathizing over “the struggle walk”, and seats were no longer precious in a sea of empty benches. This set the scene for one of the most surreal concert experiences to grace the Red Rocks Amphitheatre stage. Fitz and The Tantrums, however, harnessed this strange energy and delivered a show that any devout Red Rocks concert goer would ogle at.
Fitz and The Tantrums hit the stage and there was a moment of glee that arose from the crowd. Fans carried a sense of hesitation as they cheered through facemasks, but any doubt of a good time quickly melted away. The vocals of Michael Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs brought life to the scarcely populated amphitheater. Each seat that was not filled with a person was then filled with the high energy of the band. These artists are world-class acts, and they were not afraid to show it.
By the third song of the set, every showgoer was on their feet and dancing to the beat of “Don’t Gotta Work It Out.” The fans in attendance knew how lucky they were to see a band that could have easily sold out the barren venue. The space created between the crowd members for social distancing was inadvertently turned into space for them to dance their hearts out. Aside from the regular hip-shaking and arm waving, some people were practically running up and down the aisles as they let out all their worries through dance. The energy brought by Fitz and The Tantrums flowed through the crowd, and the venue no longer seemed to be empty — it was full of joy as the band pulled no punches with their delivery of “123456” and “Break the Walls.” At this point, the band was eight songs deep into their set and showed no signs of slowing. They dared not drop the intensity even for a moment because they knew how important their music was for that night’s audience. The crowd needed a reprieve from the hardship of the existing circumstance and were shedding their woes more and more with each track. Just past the halfway point of the performance, the band played “6am” and could have very easily ended their set there as the song elevated the jubilant atmosphere in the venue to soaring heights. Smiles could be seen through the facemasks of practically all those in attendance, with a radiance that felt like it could shine for miles. It was clear that everyone that night was going
home satisfied.
Fitzpatrick proclaimed the audience a “small but mighty lot,” and nobody wanted to let this idea down. Scaggs seemed to take this to heart the most, as she moved her hips with titanic force 15 songs deep into the set. Her dancing was infectious during “Roll Up,” with each of her movements practically throwing bolts of energy into the bodies of the crowd. Even the production staff could be seen swinging their arms and moving their feet in tow. The next song led to a jam band portion of the show, a part that lost the interest of many of the younger crowd members. Still, there were the diehard enthusiasts present who belted their lungs out in admiration after the final crash of the drums at which point, the younger audience members were swiftly pulled back in with the crescendo of the show.
“Hands up” blasted through the speakers, and the lyrics “’Cause the future’s getting shady, but we’re not done yet, so put your hands up, ’cause we’re not done yet” showered over the “small and mighty lot.” Here, Fitz and The Tantrums were playing more than just a song. They were empowering the audience with a message that carries great importance in the current era. One that could be heard echoing in the amphitheater as the band hopped off the stage. 20 song two-hour set flew by like a heartbeat. With such a full performance taking place in the middle of a pandemic, the idea of an encore might have seemed far fetched. However, there was no way Fitz and The Tantrums were leaving without playing their biggest tracks. “Hand Clap” started to play and brought with it a second wind. Rounding out the encore with “All The Feels” and then “The Walker,” no soul wanted to leave. Fitzpatrick felt this the most, as he emotionally proclaimed “I don’t want it to end” — a sentiment that hit home, as everyone in unison clung to the last moments of a performance that brought levity to a world in dire straits.
Unfortunately, the music did eventually come to an end. In its wake was a vacuum now devoid of energy. The absence of Fitz and The Tantrums was far too tangible as the small crowd slowly crawled out of the venue. Before leaving the stage Fitzpatrick had proclaimed he would see us at the next show, but as everyone walked back into reality there was a sincere hope that this would be true.

Both lip products were pigmented and long-wearing, while the lipstick was more non-drying and the lip pencil slightly drying (when worn alone).

![]() WinnieWinnie is a brighter, medium red with moderate, warm undertones and a cream finish. It was richly pigmented with a smooth, lightly creamy texture that was dense without being overly firm or stiff to work with. The lipstick applied an even layer of color, though it wasn’t the most smoothing of lip lines. It wore well for five and a half hours, left a faint stain behind, and was non-drying over time. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes
Formula Overview$7.00/0.12 oz. - $58.33 Per Ounce The formula that is supposed to be a "creamy-matte" that "glides on like butter, doesn't feather or bleed, and lasts so long you'll forget you're even wearing it." The majority of the shades were quite pigmented with full color payoff in a single stroke with a few in the more semi-opaque coverage range. The texture was, on average, smooth, lightly creamy, and not too thick or too thin, so there was no tugging during application but the color didn't feel slippery while worn, which made them easier to apply straight from the tube and low-maintenance on the lips. They tend to dry and wear down to a soft matte finish within one to three hours of wear, and while they are very lightweight on, they hug the lips more as they become more matte (compared to initial feel). The wear time has been between four and six hours for most shades, and most shades were non-drying to lightly hydrating. They were vanilla-scented but had no discernible taste. ![]() Come, We FlyCome We Fly is a muted, medium red with neutral-to-warm undertones and a flat, matte finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage in a single stroke, which applied precisely along the edge of my lips as liner but was also tolerable to use for all-over color. The consistency was just smooth enough to use all-over but wasn’t so creamy or emollient that it didn’t yield a crisp line along the edges of my lips. The formula was somewhat clingy, as it was thin and more matte, so it wasn’t the most comfortable to wear as a standalone color. It lasted for over six hours, left a slight stain behind, and felt a bit drying over time. Top Dupes

via https://303magazine.com/2020/09/this-week-in-concerts-concerts-in-denver-162/ Whether you’re looking for a liquid, cream or powder highlighter, this editor-approved and -tested guide to the best highlighters available in 2020 will help you sift through the numerous highlighters on the market. In order to add some of the newcomers, old favorites were removed, but with such steep competition, I’ve also made it a point to ensure that there is greater variety in types of highlighters at different price points. Every product recommended below has been tested and reviewed by me, your editor-in-chief, and I test thousands of products every year–so they’ve earned their way onto this list. To read more about a specific shade or view swatches, make sure to use the drop downs and buttons below, as we’ve tried to make this guide comprehensive and easy to use! Rare Beauty Positive Light Liquid Luminizer HighlightIt's supposed to have "superfine, light-catching pearls" that can be built up from "soft sheen to pure pop." Per the description, it is intended to be used as a standalone highlighter--applied over liquid, powder, or cream--or mixed with foundation. It worked well on bare skin as well as over foundation, and it was mixable, though the style of applicator made it less readily mixed into foundation compared to a dropper. I had slight lifting issues with certain shades, but it was less prone to doing so overall. Read more... Sydney Grace HighlighterThe highlighters are supposed to be "smooth and pigmented" that "blend like a dream" and "last all day long." The majority of the shades in the range are incredibly pigmented with a creaminess to the texture that makes them a cinch to apply and blend out on my skin. Read more...

Colour Pop Lite StixThe formula is supposed to "blend effortlessly" with a "natural, skin-like finish" that can be layered or applied on bare skin. The brand recommends applyling directly from the tube for heavier coverage and using a brush to pick up product for less coverage, though the coverage "easily builds colour to your heart's desire." Milk Makeup Flex HighlighterThe formula is supposed to apply "seamlessly" to skin and hydrate skin with a "weightless pearlescent base" that gives "next-level glow." There's no specific description about coverage, but the promotional swatches showed all shades as opaque. The formula is as smooth and as silky as described; it felt like a thinner, powdery cream than it felt like a true powder. Read more... Maybelline MasterChrome Metallic HighlighterIt’s supposed to have a “chrome effect” that can be applied “lightly for a subtle glow” or built up for a “bold melted metal look.” The texture was soft, smooth, and blendable that was delightfully creamy to the touch, but it was still more loosely pressed (without being powdery), which made it particularly easy to apply with a slew of brushes. Read more... Natasha Denona Super Glow HighlighterThe formula is supposed to be a "super-soft powder" that "mimics skin's natural texture for a slick, seamless finish that won't settle in fine lines" while creating a "multidimensional glow" and "glass-like sheen." The powder has a denser consistency with slight slip and creaminess, but it definitely feels like a powder. Read more... Sydney Grace Loose Highlighter

OFRA HighlighterThe formula is supposed to have a "liquid to baked technology" that has "unparalleled pigment payoff" that can be used as a highlighter as well as an eyeshadow or as a blush topper." It's a very pigmented formula with a high-shine, metallic finish that will be most suitable for someone who wants an intense highlighter. Read more... Dior DiorSkin Nude LuminizerIt's a new line of powder highlighters that are supposed to give the "face a multidimensional glow" with a "high concentration of shimmering pigments." It's an update on their previous Luminizers but with lighter-weight packaging (and no included brush, which wasn't anything to write home about anyway!) and a lower price. Read more... MAC Extra Dimension SkinfinishThe Extra Dimension Skinfinish formula is supposed to give “the perfect glow to the skin” with a “creamy powder formula” that wears for “10 hours.” It’s a powder highlighter that I’d describe as a moderate to intense highlighter, and they come in varying hues with some that might work as highlighting blushes/bronzers are on some skin tones and true highlighters on other skin tones. In general, the formula is very pigmented, blendable, and wears around eight to nine hours on me. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector PressedThe Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed formula is described as having an "ultra-reflective shine" with a "creamy" texture that "applies seamlessly." In general, the texture of the highlighters is incredibly smooth, silky, and finely-milled with frosted to metallic finishes and the occasional more sparkly finish. Read more... Milani Strobelight Instant Glow PowderThe formula is powder highlighter that’s supposed to have a “radiant finish” and is available in seven shades. The consistency was similar to a lot of other “gelee” highlighters: smooth, soft but more firmly pressed (where there was no powderiness but was still pigmented) with semi-opaque to opaque coverage and a frosted to a metallic finish. Some shades emphasized my skin’s natural texture slightly when worn heavily. This formula will be most suitable for someone who likes an intense, more metallic highlighter and warmer-toned shades. Jouer Powder HighlighterThe formula is supposed to be "long-wearing, highly pigmented" and have a "radiant finish." They are semi-opaque to opaque typically with a denser, creamier consistency that doesn't have any powderiness or dustiness to it. The powders apply well to bare skin, blended out easily, and tend to have a stronger, metallic sheen--definitely a more intense highlighter. They lasted between eight and nine hours on me. Our MethodologyThe way I approach my guides is by focusing permanent formulas that have stood the test of time–they are high quality, consistent, and all formulas that have performed well. Every shade is thoroughly tested and reviewed, and these are formulas where I’ve often tested every shade in the line of, so I really grasp each formula’s strengths and weaknesses!

Each product recommended below has been tested and reviewed by me (and we’ve made looking up reviews and swatches for individual shades easy with drop downs!), so they’re high-performing and well worth considering if you’re on the hunt for a new blush. Below, you’ll find the most up-to-date list of best cream and powder blushes that are currently available for purchase. Here are the characteristics I’m looking for in a great blush: it’s all about formulas that are easy to work with; they need to be blendable and give me the ability to dial down or up the pigmentation based on the need at the time. They should sit well on bare skin as well as over foundation and have good wear throughout the day. Fenty Beauty Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream BlushThe formula is supposed to give a "fresh wash of color" that is "effortless" to blend with a "natural-looking" finish. The coverage is designed to be "sheer, buildable" with a "sweat- and water-resistant formula." The brand recommends to apply with fingertips or their 125 brush (which is a fairly dense, angled brush). Read more... Colour Pop Blush StixOne of the best launches in 2019 was ColourPop’s Blush Stix, which features a dewy, luminous finish that lasts all day long in an assortment of shades. The formula offers buildable coverage that can be applied with fingertips or a brush, over bare skin or on top of base products, and it’s just nearly effortless to work with.

Sydney Grace Pressed BlushIt's a more pigmented blush, so it favors those who need or want richer coverage achieved with less product or in one layer, but those who prefer sheerer, more buildable blush may find there is a learning curve. The formula was very blendable and easy to work with, so I think it is more forgiving, particularly shades with some shimmer in them. The matte shades can be slightly powdery but do not look dry or dusty when applied, though they can darken a bit if not applied over drier or more matte skin (or a base). They wore between eight and 10 hours on me before fading noticeably.

Make Up For Ever Artist Face Color - BlushIf you love matte and satin finish blushes but don’t like powdery or drier formulas, this is a formula you’ll enjoy. There are three distinctive finishes–matte, shimmer and pearl–but matte here means more “natural matte” where the powder almost “melts” onto the skin for a skin-like effect (but no overt shimmer!). Cover FX Monochromatic Blush DuoCover FX developed an unexpected winner with their Monochromatic Blush Duos! They released to much fanfare and many shades were out of stock for quite awhile (hence the unexpected descriptor!), and I can attest that they are worth the hype. Each duo features a natural matte blush and luminous blush in coordinating hues. The formula has a smoother, dense feel but never feels powdery. The pigmentation ranged from semi-opaque to opaque and could be built up as desired. Flower Beauty Blush BombThe Blush Bombs have a gel-like consistency–more liquid-like but with more substance, a little less watery in feel–that plays better with base products than more water-like liquid/cream blushes. This type of gel texture seems to smooth over base products without lifting them up in my experience. They have buildable coverage with eight to nine-hour wear. Hourglass Ambient Lighting BlushThere is, perhaps, a trend to some of my top picks for blushes: formulas that are forgiving, easy to work with, and have less-shimmery finishes (just wait on that, though!). Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes are perfect for anyone who prefer softer coverage that can be built up but is hard to overdo paired with a satin to lightly luminous finish. MAC Extra Dimension BlushMAC’s Extra Dimension Blushes are fantastic for anyone who loves shimmery blush that is noticeable, glowy, and blendable without worrying about the shimmer emphasizing the natural skin. They’re pigmented with a soft, smooth texture that’s firmer in the pan but not difficult to use, and they have no dustiness or powderiness in the pan. Clinique Cheek Pop BlushClinique’s Cheek Pop Blushes are some of the earliest iterations of the more baked-powder-gel tribrid formulas that are now more and more common to see. This kind texture is the type that almost blends itself as soon as you start applying and working it onto the skin. The finish became more luminous as I blended the powder onto the skin, but it was never shiny or overly shimmery, so it always looked smooth on my skin and did not emphasize pores or my skin’s texture. Chanel Joues Contraste BlushChanel Joues Contraste Blush is a classic with a variety of shades and finishes, though most are more matte to natural with very being moderately shimmery or metallic. They’re a softer, silkier texture that has a touch of dustiness compared to several other picks here, but they’re blendable, easy to work with, and last well on my skin. Colour Pop Super Shock CheekFor ultra-long wearing cream-to-powder blush, ColourPop Super Shock Cheeks reign supreme. There are lots of shades and finishes with the more matte shades having an almost watercolor effect on skin, while the more shimmery shades give a dewy sheen that isn’t actually tacky or wet to the touch. Surratt Beauty Artistique BlushFor those with higher gifting budgets, Surratt’s Artistique Blushes offer a supremely silky texture, buildable semi-opaque coverage, and a delightfully luminous finish that sits well on skin. For a permanent, high-end range, there’s a nice diversity in shades from light to dark, cool to warm.

It was very brightening with more of a transparent base, so I could see it working well with a multitude of shades under it or even to the inner corners for an extra pop of shine (they are safe for the eyes). The texture was very lightweight and fluid as it had good glide and slid easily across my skin but didn’t feel as watery most liquid formulas tend to be. The coverage was more semi-sheer when applied with “one to two dots” of product, which was the recommended amount per the brand, but it could easily be opaque if applied with more product (like a heavy dab of one dot). The liquid highlighter applied well to bare skin or over foundation, and I didn’t find that one type of application method was better as both fingertip- and brush-application worked well. The product applied evenly, wasn’t prone to lifting up base products, and diffused well along the edges. It stayed on nicely for nine hours before fading a bit. Formula Overview$22.00/0.5 oz. - $44.00 Per Ounce It's supposed to have "superfine, light-catching pearls" that can be built up from "soft sheen to pure pop." Per the description, it is intended to be used as a standalone highlighter--applied over liquid, powder, or cream--or mixed with foundation. It worked well on bare skin as well as over foundation, and it was mixable, though the style of applicator made it less readily mixed into foundation compared to a dropper. I had slight lifting issues with certain shades, but it was less prone to doing so overall. The coverage was more controllable than with the liquid blush, but a little went a fairly long way; the brand recommended using "1-2 dots," which yielded a softer sheen with more medium to semi-opaque coverage that could be sheered out. It was buildable and easy enough to layer for higher coverage, if desired, and it was easier to build up than it was to really sheer out from over-application of product. The brand doesn't comment explicitly on the pigmentation but rather bills it as having a buildable glow (as in the shine/shimmer, which is finish and not actual color!). They show opaque swatches in the promotional imagery and recommend the same application as the liquid blushes (which they do say are very pigmented). The texture was lightweight, emollient, and more serum-like and spread well whether I used fingertips or a brush. I didn't find it was particularly prone to lifting up base products or foundation, but it was easiest to work with using smaller amounts and building up or applying to the back of my hand and swirling a brush into it, which seemed to help it "dry out" a bit and be less emollient. It didn't have a fully transfer-proof dry down, but it did softly set so it had shine and sheen but didn't slide around while worn. The shades wore well for eight to nine hours on me before fading a bit. In general, I think it's a very good formula but like the liquid blush by the brand, there is a bit of a learning curve. I'm still on the hunt to a linkable video or source, but I had some readers say they heard it in a livestream/live that the brand designed the packaging to be easier to work with for those who have mobility issues in their hands (like arthritis). The rounded, knob-shape was easier to grasp, especially as it was more of a soft matte than glossy matte, than a typical highlighter. It would be great to see ridges running around the knob/top, though, as it would make it even easier to grip! Browse all of our Rare Beauty Positive Light Liquid Luminizer Highlight swatches. via https://www.temptalia.com/how-has-your-enthusiasm-for-makeup-changed-in-the-last-six-months/ ![]() Gather Round SistersColour Pop Gather Round Sisters 15-Pan Shadow Palette ($26.00 for 0.60 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette in collaboration with the Hocus Pocus franchise. The palette contains a mix of mattes, sparkle-over-mattes, shimmers, and one pressed glitter, and generally, it performed consistently with more recent ColourPop palette releases (which isn’t really a compliment). I’m not a fan of ColourPop’s increasing commitment to including a smattering of larger sparkle particles in an otherwise matte finish; this finish just results in extra fallout, little that translates to the lid, and doesn’t really seem to add anything to the formula–they’re the kind of matte shades that are already blendable (sometimes a bit of shimmer can make a shade more blendable). There are four shades that fall under that finish in this palette. The Pressed Glitter has finer particle glitter and seems to have more of a base color than it being purely made out of glitter particles. Four shades were matte and had lightly to moderately powdery texture with two shades being under-performing. The shimmers were more consistent, though I felt three of the five shimmers were on the drier side and were best applied with a dampened brush for the smoothest application of product. I have found that more recent shimmer eyeshadows from the brand have been drier, which can result a more frosted, textured appearance rather than smooth and more metallic. Brew Potion contains plastic (PET) glitter, and it is not intended for the immediate eye area. Night of Frolic and Dead Man’s Toe are also not intended for use in the immediate area as they include color additives that are not approved for use on the eye area by the FDA but would be considered safe for the eye area by EU.

![]() Full MoonFull Moon is a light, buttery yellow with warm undertones and flecks of micro-sparkle over a matte finish. The texture was moderately powdery with sparkles that did not bind with the rest of the product, so they either got trapped in my brush or contributed to fallout during application–very few managed to stay on my skin. It had opaque pigmentation in a single layer that wore decently for seven and a half hours on me. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes
Formula Overview$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours. The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush. Browse all of our Colour Pop Pressed Powder Shadow swatches.

It had excellent color coverage, but the consistency was quite powdery, which resulted in the product sheering out during application and having some fallout (even when I was careful to tap off excess). There were signs of fading present after seven and a half hours of wear.

![]() Brew PotionBrew Potion is a darker, golden bronze with warm undertones and a glittering finish. This shade was listed as “not intended” for the immediate eye area as it did contain plastic (PET) glitter particles. It had more of a base color, so it was quite pigmented in a single layer and had a more emollient consistency–this did help more of the particles actually adhere to skin and minimized the chance of fallout. I’m not comfortable wearing it on my eye area myself, so I tested it as a highlighter, and there were some stray particles after eight hours of wear.

![]() Come Little ChildrenCome Little Children is a light, golden taupe with warmer undertones and flecks of silver sparkle over a matte finish. The sparkles just made an eyeshadow that wouldn’t have been prone to fallout… have fallout, both during the initial application and during blending. The only upside was all of the sparkles fell out during application so there wasn’t additional fallout during wear! The base color had opaque coverage with a soft, blendable, and moderately powdery texture. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me before fading. ![]() Thackery BinxThackery Binx is a medium, reddish-plum with subtle, warm undertones and a frosted finish. The consistency felt drier, more loosely-pressed, but it lacked the emollient slip I’ve come to expect from the brand’s shimmers. It did not improve with fingertip application–it had to be applied with a dampened brush, which helped to bind the powder together so that it would adhere evenly and smoothly to the lid. Applied dry, it was patchy and had a fair amount of fallout. It had good pigmentation but instantly sheered out to more medium coverage due to the texture. It wore decently for seven and a half hours before fading noticeably. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes

There were a few sparkles that translated to my skin when applied, but most of them got lost in my brush or dropped off my lid. ![]() WenchWench is a light, golden pewter with warm undertones and a metallic finish. It had opaque color coverage that adhered evenly to bare skin, but the texture was drier and more loosely-pressed–but powdery as a result–so it did not sit smoothly. I tried to apply it by pressing it on with a fingertip, but it just wasn’t enough to help the product bind together. I’d recommend using a dampened brush to get a smoother lay down of product. It wore well for seven and a half hours before fading a bit. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes

![]() Night of FrolicNight of Frolic is a medium, reddish-burgundy with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had medium pigmentation that was buildable to semi-opaque coverage with a second or third layer. The texture was moderately powdery, which resulted in the product sheering out a bit and some fallout–even when I was trying to avoid it the best I could. It was the most blendable shade, and I felt like I had to lay it down and barely blend the edges to avoid it lifting off or turning patchy. Formula Overview$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing." The way the Pressed Pigments differ is that they're not intended for usage on the immediate eye area. The majority of the shades are semi-opaque to opaque in coverage, blend out fairly well, and can sometimes be a bit drier/more powdery compared to typical matte shades. They often wear eight to nine hours on me before fading, but many shades in the Pressed Pigment family leave some staining behind. Browse all of our Colour Pop Pressed Powder Pigment swatches.
NOTICE: All products categorized under "Pigment" carry a warning in the US that the product is "not intended for use in the immediate eye area." Brands in the US typically market these products as "Pigments" (instead of "Eyeshadow"), and there is often a warning on the back of packaging or the label. The product includes color additives that are not approved for usage on the eyes per the FDA. Some color additives in "Pigments" have no usage restrictions in the EU, per CosIng, and can be used on the eyes. We recommend checking ingredients to confirm current safety assessment/restrictions: FDA/CosIng.

![]() Dead Man's ToeDead Man’s Toe is a deeper, purple-berry with cooler undertones and a matte finish. It was fairly powdery with a drier, thin consistency that yielded more semi-sheer to medium coverage that was hard to build up. The first time I tried to use this palette, I used this in the crease, and it was a disaster. The product did not apply evenly, and the more I tried to build up the color, the less color that adhered at all. There was so much fallout, too, and excess product kicked up in the pan. What little color translated to my skin stayed on for seven hours from what I could tell. I tried it over primer, too, and it was not much improved–slightly less sheerness but still similar application issues with respect to building up color and blending it out.
