By this time last year, the party had already begun. Competitive whiskey fanatics and professional tailgaters from far and wide had already started lining up outside the Stranahan’s distillery on South Santa Fe in order to be the first through the door for the annual release of Snowflake — master distiller Rob Dietrich’s sublime limited-edition release that appears but once each winter only to be swept up in a matter of hours. While waiting outside for the better part of the week in what can be the freezing cold may seem absurd to the vast majority of casual drinkers, each year brings out more emboldened whiskey lovers for what may be one of the most unorthodox liquor events of the year. This Saturday, the distillery will open its doors at 8 a.m. serving up bottles of the 21st edition — entitled Mount Elbert — on a first come first serve basis for $100 a pop. Click to view slideshow. The product itself is undeniably good and getting better but the peculiar cult following and boisterous event that precedes the release have become an inextricable piece of why the bottle is so highly valued. Long-lasting friendships and good-natured rivalries have sprung up between the devotees, some of whom have been setting up shop on Santa Fe in RVs for multiple years. Starting at around 5 a.m. the courtyard outside the distillery turns into a predawn jamboree complete with numerous bands, coffee and of course plenty of whiskey. Inside the building, there is more music and more cocktails, which makes the long line not so much of a wait as an increasingly depraved bacchanal. Each batch is named after one of Colorado’s many fourteeners. Mount Elbert — the tallest of all 58 — provided the inspiration for this year’s, particularly ambitious impression. Dietrich has served as master distiller since 2011 and has arguably transformed the American single malt whiskey house into what it is today. Click to view slideshow. Each year Dietrich invents the latest iteration through a freestyle process in the comfort of his own home. He likens the process to making chili — the end result comes from a lot of experimentation from one of the state’s more refined whiskey palettes. This year’s version features Stranahan’s aged in a Syrah and Muscat cask both from Balisteri, a port cask, a California Merlot cask and Old Vine Zin cask from Spero, a Chocolate Stout cask finish, two Madeira casks and a rum cask. While this may sound like a lot, Dietrich carefully balances the flavors creating a remarkably nuanced drink unlike any other whiskey and decidedly different from their popular flagship product. While you don’t necessarily have to show up days in advance to get a bottle, getting there before the crack of dawn is crucial if you want a shot. Even if you don’t get through the doors, the event is an awe-inspiring look at a distinctly American whiskey culture that Colorado should be proud of. Stranahan’s is located at 200 South Kalamath St., Denver. For more information on this Saturday’s event, go here. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a milkier color and finish, so it looked almost evenly translucent. The texture had moderate slip and felt “wet” almost as it was quite creamy, and as a result, it did pull into my lip lines a bit. This shade stayed on well for three hours and was lightly hydrating over time. Top Dupes
Formula Overview$36.00/0.07 oz. - $514.29 Per Ounce The Lips & Boys Lip Color formula is not different from the full-sized Lip Color range; they offer a travel-sized version (which is actually cheaper by the ounce: $36.00/0.07 oz. or $514.29/oz. compared to the full-size at $54.00/0.10 oz. or $540.00/oz. The formula is supposed to have an "ultra-creamy texture" and "pure color" with a "balance of luminosity." The range has a fair amount of variation as the finishes differ (matte to metallic), so coverage can be medium to full with some shades applying well and others decently. The wear was anywhere from three hours to over six hours. In general, the formula has a creamy texture that's easy to work with, comfortable to wear, and is lightly to moderately hydrating. The pigmentation was semi-opaque and easily built up to full coverage, or one could use a slightly lighter hand to achieve sheerer, even more buildable coverage if desired. The highlighter had a smooth, denser consistency that wasn’t too firmly pressed in the pan, so it was still easy to pick up product using more feathery brushes. It applied well to my cheek bones, blended out nicely, and didn’t emphasize my skin’s natural texture. It stayed on well for eight hours on me before I noticed fading. Top Dupes

Explore the Dupe Listvia https://www.temptalia.com/this-week-in-dupes-vol-014/ Q&A- Ryan Hemsworth Expands on His New Album and Dream Collaborations Before Coming to Denver11/27/2018 With a range as wide as his native Canada, it’s no surprise Ryan Hemsworth has taken the world of indie-tronica by storm. From his ethereally animated soundscapes to his studiously seductive beats, Hemsworth has captured audiences through headphones and dance floors across the globe. Whether he’s slinging beats or incessantly touring, the internet-infused Canadian has been busy since bursting on the scene. This year Hemsworth has come back swinging. On his 2018 release, Elsewhere, Toronto’s finest (sorry Aubrey) has branched out even further. Alongside the equally dreamy Giraffage, Hemsworth has been hitting North America right in the feels on his “Open World Tour.” The tour winds down in Denver December 1 at Summit Music Hall, but before his performance this Saturday, 303 Magazine had a chance to catch up with the charming Canadian and talk about Elsewhere, dream collabs and Voodoo Donuts. 303 Magazine: So having started as a bedroom producer, what do you feel has changed with Elsewhere? Ryan Hemsworth: The last projects I put out were all basically e-mail collaborations and stuff like that. I never really was in studios with people and with this one the majority of it was all kind of on the road. I would meet up with someone and go to the studio. I think with this one it was definitely more in-person. Kind of feeling that chemistry of working together. And in that way, it feels a lot different for me. 303: What are the pros and cons of developing into the studio space— have you felt as though you have to relinquish any control? RH: I think I always wanted to give up some of that control in a way. I work with people that I like— you know, that I’m a fan of. So I want a singer to have their ideas. And if they’ve got an idea for production I’m always down with that. So I think that it’s a pro— to really just like being in the same room and it’s those little moments. Like with the last track, “Animal” I worked on it with this girl Robin (Dann) and we made it in my apartment. There is a part of the chorus where the chords were already recorded and figured out, but she was like change that last note I think it could make it really cool. And just little moments like that… I don’t know if they make a massive difference to the listener but to me, it just feels like ‘oh my brain wasn’t going there.’ I wouldn’t have changed the progression that way but it turned out so much more satisfying to me. 303: You’ve collaborated with artists from Lil B to Alex G. What exactly do you look for in a collaborator? RH: Anybody I’ve worked with I’ve been a fan of, listening to them constantly before I even reach out to them. I think I kind of look for open-mindedness but at the same time, I want something that it’s different from how I approach music. I think I work well with like-minded people but also I want to facilitate a song and session, and bring in someone— like a rapper that naturally is almost like a surprise to people when they hear the song. I think I just always kind of want to be taken in a new direction but also I want to take that collaborator in a new direction as well. 303: Elsewhere feels like it’s going in a new direction. A lot of your past work reflects an interest in Internet culture and Japanese pop culture. But Elsewhere feels a little more globally curated, why is that? RH: Since 2015, I’ve been working on it— off and on. But yeah there are a lot of different places that I’ve been picking away at it, from London to Tokyo and all across America. Initially, I was sort of like I don’t know what I’m making right now. And in the end, I kind of realized it was this amalgamation of all of these different places I’ve been and people that I’ve met and combined those worlds— to create something fresh and [that] hasn’t quite existed before. 303: In past interviews, you’ve mentioned a bit of interest in starting a band. Do you have any plans for that cooking? RH: Yeah I’ve actually got a couple projects I’m kind of figuring out right now. I’ve definitely been imagining a side project where I’m able to do all the instrumentals myself but go back to playing guitar. And work in real instruments and organic sounds. I want to get a lot more singers from the music that I listen to more than anything— which is like emo music and rock and math rock… stuff like that. So I think that will be one kind of direction that I might add in. 303: So if you had your dream band who would be in it? RH: Kacey Musgraves, Phoebe Bridgers and Fiona Apple. 303: You and Giraffage have already gotten your feet wet along the West Coast and from the looks of it the two of you are having a blast. How’d the two of you meet? RH: Oh man, like so long ago… I can’t remember exactly when but I randomly was going through my oldest Instagram posts the other day and I posted the Blink-182 self-titled album cover back in like 2010 or 2011. There’s like 10 likes and he was one of them. So I feel like we’ve been kind of kindred spirits in a way for a long time. When I was just starting to throw up a lot of remixes on Soundcloud, he was kind of doing sort of the same thing in his own way, around then. So I feel like we kind of grew as artists. 303: This isn’t your first rodeo in Denver, what’s the first thing you like to do here? RH: I don’t know the first but I know the last thing—ending up at that donut shop that’s open 24 hours. That’s kind of always been the TKO at the end of the night [laughs]. I’m sure that’s going to happen again this time. 303: What do you expect from Colorado crowds? RH: I mean honestly whenever I’ve played it’s been pretty ferocious in some capacity I would say. In certain cities that you play there’s an expectation that people are only going to let loose so much. But when I’ve been in Denver and other places around Colorado, there’s no hesitation or anything. As long as the vibes right, you give it your all. Ryan Hemsworth comes to Summit Music Hall with Giraffage and Nite Jewel, Saturday, December 1. Tickets are still available and can be found here.

It had good color coverage, though it was shy of full coverage. The texture was denser and slightly firm, so there was a noticeable tug as I applied the color across my lips. The lipstick was nearly opaque in a single layer, and the color applied evenly and smoothly across my lips without tugging. There was a touch of emphasis of my overall lip texture in the close-up, but I thought it looked rather smoothing in person. The pigmentation was nearly opaque in a single layer, while the consistency was velvety and smooth with excellent glide. With the ever-growing music scene and a plethora of talent, it’s easy for artists to get lost in the shuffle. Kaitlyn Williams is not one of those artists. If her purple hair isn’t the first thing to grab your attention, her voice surely is. Her voice is a mix of honey and soul with the musical style to match. Kaitlyn Williams is an artist who will not and must not be ignored. 303 Magazine had the chance to sit down with the local artist to discuss her break into the Denver music scene, the challenges she faces and her debut album set to release January 2019. 303: How did you first break into the music scene in Denver? KW: The open mic scene was really important for how I’ve gotten to where I am now. I started going to open mics in the summer of 2016. I would go to open mics almost every single night of the week, which is so exhausting because you’re out until 2 a.m., singing. And then somewhere along the way, Wes [Watkins] heard me at Ghost Town and was like, “Hey, do you want to be in The Other Black?” 303: Do you remember the first song you wrote? KW: I remember one of the first songs I wrote was called “My Fantasy” [laughing]. I can still kind of remember the melody. It was about a guy who was on the ski team that I liked. 303: Have you noticed your style of writing change over the past years? KW: Yes. If I were to play that for you… it’s not bad but the lyrics aren’t necessarily thoughtful and that’s what I think changes the most. As a musician, your palate for harmony changes but your writing and the words also change. 303: Is there one certain song in particular that sticks out that you’ve written? KW: It’s a song that I wrote called “Rain” that still, whenever I play it, it definitely brings out an emotion. I had broken up with this guy and [my best friend] said, well, you know what they say, love is blind. And that’s the first line of the song. Then the chorus is, take me where the trees are green. That can mean anything. Taking me anywhere, away from that. 303: Do like that your lyrics are kind of open to interpretation or do you try to make sure that everyone understands the meaning? KW: Man, I think that that’s still what I’m working on as an artist. How to make things open to interpretation for people but also not so broad that they don’t understand what I’m saying. There’s a real fine line. I would say for the most part I’m pretty clear. 303: Have you noticed any challenges for yourself as you’re gearing up for the release of your debut album? KW: What I’m going for is not my live sound. I don’t want it to sound like people can go to my show and they’re going to get the same thing on my record. I want it to be different. What about having sounds outside of what a live instrument can create? And then it’s these sounds that I am working with on my record, how am I going to get them in my live show? How many of those things do I want to keep for my live show? It’s a balance. 303: You’ve recently changed your stage name from “Kdubbs” to “Kaitlyn Williams.” Why the change? KW: So, the name change! Really “Kdubbs” was a high school nickname that turned into my stage name. It wasn’t until I started getting serious about releasing music that I realized when you look up “Kdubbs” you won’t find me, you’ll find a rapper or a producer who are mostly men. No part of me fits that description. 303: What have you learned about the Denver music scene? KW: I think Denver is one the most supportive places I’ve been. I really do feel like people want to collaborate here and they want to support you. I feel like a lot of my friends, most of my friends come to my shows — my music friends. But then on the other side, it’s harder to find people outside the music friends. What about people who aren’t musicians? How do we get those people out? How do we get beyond our music friends to [come to] our shows? 303: You released your first two singles, “Rain” and “Down With Me.” How has the reception towards these songs been so far? KW: The reception has been really incredible for Rain! Down With Me is brand new as of yesterday, so I’ll be waiting to hear all of the feedback. I have a good feeling about it, especially because it’s a party. People are still posting about “Rain” and playing it for their friends and it’s officially on the Colorado Playlist! I’m hoping to start getting more traction with the more that I release. 303: When can we expect an album release? KW: The album release is January 25. The show will be at Syntax and after the show, you’ll be able to stream the album everywhere. I’m stoked about being able to sell physical hard copies and have an entire body of work out! 303: Where do you hope to see the Denver music scene, five to 10 years from now? KW: LA is really cool for just the songwriting collaborations and the songwriters and producers that live there. I think it’d be really cool if we had a deeper, thicker hub of producers that are here in studios with well-known artists. I don’t want to wish LA vibes upon us, but people are always dying to go to LA for the music scene. Why can’t we have that here? 303: What’s some advice that you would give to aspiring musicians here in Denver to break into the music scene in Denver? KW: Don’t live in fear. So much of my time I spent living in fear. I was afraid I couldn’t book a gig, I was afraid of all sorts of things which was such B.S. I’m 24 and I’m thinking to myself, I definitely could have been doing this when I was 20. Don’t waste your time living in fear.
