![]() DollymixMAC Dollymix Powder Blush ($24.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a bright, light-medium pink with subtle, cool undertones and a soft, pearly sheen. The consistency of my 2018-purchased shade was softer and smoother than past iterations I have–almost more slip as a result. It had medium, buildable pigmentation, which seemed in line with the type of finish. It appeared a bit more shimmery built up, but when applied at medium coverage, buffed and blended, it had a more satin sheen–glowing but not really overtly shimmery. The blush blended out fairly well and lasted nicely for eight hours on me. Top Dupes
Formula Overview$24.00/0.21 oz. - $114.29 Per Ounce Per the brand, the formula is supposed to "provide fantastic colour with ease and consistency" that "applies evenly, adheres lightly to skin." There are five distinct finishes within the range: Frost ("iridescent, lightly shimmering color"), Matte ("flat, matte finish... builds well"), Satin ("adds subtle highlights to the skin"), Sheertone ("sheer-on micro-refined powder ... that goes on faint"), and Sheertone Shimmer ("just enough shimmer to make light dance on your cheeks"). Their permanent blushes are available in compact form as well as pan-only (the latter will be cheaper). The following overview has been updated to reflect the most current iteration of the brand's permanent range (whether or not there's been any official change) as I repurchased the majority of the permanent shades as of June 2018. I make a point to say that because I felt that the textures of several shades, particularly the frost finish shades, was noticeably different; they were much smoother and had more slip but were less shimmery/frosted (on average) and seemed to be a bit weaker in pigmentation (but still buildable). Some of the mattes felt like I've encountered in the past (a little drier, pigmented, and fairly blendable), while some felt more velvety and finely-milled. MAC has a solid blush range but some shades are harder than others to blend out or diffuse, and as it does for most formulas (from any brand), it really comes down to some shades falling shy of expectations. The matte finish had a tendency to darken on my skin within five minutes of application; for most shades, I would recommend applying over a powdered face and/or avoiding applying on still-drying complexion products to make blending the easiest. The matte shades seemed to be semi-opaque to opaque, buildable, and long-wearing (about eight hours). Only a few of the shades in the permanent range seemed to be particularly frosted/metallic on the skin; most shades that had shimmer appeared more softly luminous or pearlescent on the skin to the point where there was little sheen/reflection captured by my camera (I did a double take for a few and re-did swatches only to find the same finish captured yet again!). The Sheertone Shimmer performed most consistently with this: very subtle sheen, more "my skin but better" with having a slightly more noticeable sheen than matte. There were a few shades that had a strong sheen on the skin (like Peachykeen), though. The Frost finish just seemed to have stronger, larger shimmer in it, but the effect on the skin ranged being subtle to moderate. The same was true with Satin--some were more satin-like and some seemed more like a Frost (like Modern Mandarin). Most shades were blendable, while pigmentation varied from sheer to opaque depending on the shade, but most had decent, builable coverage. The textures were firmer than the average powder blush of current times, but they don't have excess product kicked up in the pan at all. The wear ranged between seven and nine hours with deeper, intense mattes (like Fever or Film Noir) lasted longer. Browse all of our MAC Powder Blush swatches. Fashion is truly the art of reinvention with old perpetually becoming new again. This summer is a trip back to the late ’90s with trends that range from bright stripes and tropical floral to matching workwear staples like oversized blazers and pinstripe slacks to the grunge fashion staple — plaid. This reimagination of once-popular trends is what brings creative energy to the summer season, making us want to thoughtfully choose outfits that go beyond t-shirts and shorts. The first step to a stylish summer in Denver is understanding the trends, so we put together the top three trend categories for the cool kids, the music lovers and the adventurers to embrace as the heat continues. READ: The 303 Guide to Denver Summer Style 2017THE CITY LOOK![]() The Lowdown: The stoic and crisp aesthetic of turning formal workwear staples into street fashion is this summer’s must-go-to for any occasion. For women, pairing oversized blazers with a bralette and belted shorts or mixing prints and textures, like a glen plaid skirt with a ribbed crop top, always sets the tone for seriousness and edginess — the entire point of this trend. As for the men, mixing formal dress pants with a t-shirt or relaxed button down is the way to go, however, the trick is to match it with sport-focused accessories such as a logo windbreaker or graphic t-shirt. Pair it with the top trending accessory — the super slim cat eye — that is both unisex and a nostalgic reminder of the sleek wardrobe from The Matrix. ![]() ![]() ![]() THE GRUNGE LOOK![]() ![]() The Lowdown: The grunge look is adding style to the carefree attitude of this summer. Band t-shirts will never be out, however, they have returned in full force. New graphics with classic band logos are the way to represent your music taste as well as your summer style. For women, pair floral with distressed denim or mesh tops with the most grunge staple of them all — plaid. For men, it’s all about tucking the t-shirt in at the front — also know as a French tuck — to elevate the look. Find a pair of sunglasses that match your band-tee, creating the cool vibe that stands out. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() THE ADVENTURERThe Lowdown: This summer is about adventure and the tropics and deserts are the key inspirations for the two trends everyone needs to try. For the safari look, it’s all about linen and earth tones as well as classic button-downs paired with a traveler’s corset or poplin shirts decorated with animals. For the tropical look, it’s all about bold stripes, colors and tropical-themed floral — always paired with brim hats and tortoiseshell eyewear. The looks are both summer appropriate and a refreshing take on the color block combinations and Indiana Jones aesthetic. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Photography by Rebecca Grant Styling by Ernesto Prada and Stephen Garcia Models Trevonn Redding Kelcie Currier Lucia Escalante and Antonio Moya via https://303magazine.com/2018/06/denver-summer-style-2018/

Though the mountain town revels in fine and contemporary art galleries, their street art and mural scene has lagged well behind. But — when Aspen sets its sights on something — Aspen manages to acquire it. Which is why a large outdoor mural will be completed by internationally-renowned artist Shepard Fairey. Fairey rose to popularity in the street art world when he launched the Andre the Giant OBEY series, spreading stickers and wheatpastes of a stylized version of Andre’s face across cities while attending Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Then, in 2008, Fairey gained even more attention when he created the Obama Hope poster for Obama’s presidential campaign. Since then, Fairey has traveled the world over, creating large-scale murals and wheatpastes, as well as showcasing interior work in galleries, in places like Paris, Detroit, South Africa — and now Aspen. ![]() Andre the Giant OBEY campaign by Shepard Fairey. Photo courtesy of OBEY GIANT on Facebook So how exactly did Aspen manage to land one of the most sought-after street artists? Step in Katie Kiernan, a local arts activist and supporter who founded 212GALLERY in 2005 and regularly deals with multi-million dollar acquisitions. In 2015, Kiernan landed Fairey for a solo exhibition inside 212GALLERY, but her hopes were always to curate something more spectacular than just a normal gallery show — especially since Fairey is more well-known for his guerrilla installations on the exterior of buildings. “We wanted the show to be more than just the traditional white cube exhibition and with an artist like Shepard, the opportunity to connect Aspen to Shepard’s Global Mural Project was a super exciting opportunity,” Kiernan explained. “It took two and a half years to line everything up with Shepard’s global exhibition schedule [and] the City of Aspen, as well as to locate the perfect wall.” The Global Mural Project that Kiernan referenced is an undertaking of Fairey’s that involves traveling all over the world to install massive murals — all with a suggestive tone of political activism. Fairey, after all, claimed his fame in part because of the highly political undercurrents he uses in his work. But even if you might not agree with Fairey’s views, his murals are visually stunning and expertly completed. For the mural in Aspen, Fairey will use wheatpasting, which is a kind of street art that uses paper and something similar to wallpaper adhesive to glue a pre-made piece of art to the wall. Because most of the process is done at home or in a studio (or on a computer) the actual installation goes much quicker than a typically painted mural. According to Kiernan, Fairey started the install early this week and will be done by Thursday, June 28. The location is 520 East Durant Avenue.
About choosing the location for the mural, Kiernan added, “my friend and colleague Bob Chase of Chase art group and hexton Gallery joined the charge in November 2017 as the project began to ramp back up. Thanks to the addition of Bob and a list of incredible early supporters (like Babs from Big Wrap (who is responsible for suggesting the perfect wall), Andy Hecht & Jimmy Marcus (who are responsible for approving use of the perfect wall), Sue Hostetler, Michael Brown and surrounding business owners like Lee Keating from Performance, Bill Miller from Miller Sports, we have been able to get enough support to move through the application and review process with the City and HPC board. We got our final approval from the city/HPC on May 9th, which was amazing, but our work was just beginning!” Though it might be too late for any of us to head to Aspen to see Fairey and his team working on the installation, there’s no need to worry because the mural will stay on that wall permanently. Not only will it remain as the first piece of (legal) street art in the mountain town, it will remain a testament to the efforts of so many people who made it happen. “One of the primary goals of this project is to help enhance cultural tourism in Aspen. The fact that people have access to world-class culture here has become as important as access to nature and the outdoors,” Kiernan added. Until they acquire at least a few more murals, Aspen might not show up on the street art radar for quantity — but with this Fairey mural, they’ll certainly register for quality. The concept is designed for someone who wants a glossy, dewy glow where the color is a “veil of sinfully sublime luminosity.” This is not going to be an intensely pigmented, see-it-from-Mars kind of highlighter. I liked the overall effect of the two products layered on my skin, but the balm definitely did not do the most for all-day wear, so it might work as a pretty effect for a special occasion or on a mostly bare face where patchiness wouldn’t be noticeable after several hours of wear. ![]() Bronze (Highlighter)Bronze (Highlighter) is a soft copper with warm, golden pearl. It had semi-sheer coverage, which was somewhat buildable, but it was thin and emollient enough that practically speaking, it ends up looking more sheer to semi-sheer once blended out on the skin (and that’s what the brand marketed it as). The texture was firmer in the tube and had less slip and glossiness compared to the balm, but it still had a soft, dewy finish on my skin. It applied well over bare skin, but it was harder to apply over complexion products without disturbing my face. I had the best luck applying it over foundation by using a stippling brush to pat and tap the color into place, and then using a dampened sponge to blend and diffuse (which I had also used with my foundation). On its own, the color stayed on well for eight hours on me. Top Dupes

![]() Clear (Balm)Clear (Balm) is transparent and has a very balm-like, emollient texture that yields a glossy finish when patted on to the skin. For application, it layered easily on my bare skin, but it didn’t lift my foundation when I tried it that way. I was surprised it didn’t melt away my foundation immediately, since it had a lot of slip and never dried down, and while it wasn’t long-wearing, it lasted for a good six hours before I noticed some patchiness directly where I had applied the balm–it was closer to eight hours before it started to look obvious at a glance (instead of just close-up). It was easiest to see the longevity when I tried over complexion products as well as layered over the balm, because on its own over bare skin, there was no patchiness to be found since there was nothing to turn patchy! When I wore it over bare skin (by itself), I felt like some of the glossiness migrated toward my nostrils but not much further below my cheek bone or above it. Top Dupes

In an unexpected turn of events, Dua Lipa canceled her Denver concert on account of a health issue mid-show. After singing a few of her hits, such as “Blow Your Mind” and “One Kiss,” the soothing songstress ended on a ballad with “Lost in Your Light.” Performing in a bedazzled bandeau, the English singer/songwriter eventually announced to the crowd that she was feeling unwell.
“Denver I love you… I wanted to give you the best show but I can’t do this right now,” Lipa announced, followed by tears. “I’m so sorry.” Later in the evening, Lipa posted an apology to Twitter:

This isn’t the first time this year Lipa has canceled a show — she pulled her opening performance from two Bruno Mars shows in Australia in March after experiencing pain from a wisdom teeth surgery. In an apology posted to Twitter, she said, “I’ve been performing with an awful pain due to my wisdom teeth and as advised by my dentist and oral surgeon I have had to have them imminently removed.” And now, she’s battling further health issues while on her solo tour. Denver fans took to social media to vocalize their support — and some, their frustrations — with the pop musician after the abrupt cancelation.
Dua Lipa, who performed briefly after opener Clairo at the Fillmore Auditorium on June 26, was set to play a handful of shows in North America, stopping in Denver along the way. The tour, amusingly called the “Self-Titled Tour,” is set to reach a global scale in countries such as Norway, Hungary, France and Taiwan. Dua Lipa’s next tour date is currently scheduled for Las Vegas on June 28 and we wish the performer a speedy recovery in the meantime.
via https://303magazine.com/2018/06/dua-lipa-cancels-denver-show/ This is an entry in an ongoing series for 303 Magazine, which will provide a range of local album reviews. It is our intention to highlight the talents of local musicians, whether veterans to the industry or newcomers. Like the bands, the album can be fresh or something we just haven’t had the power to take off repeat in the past few months. Check out previous entries in the series here. “Imagine a sandy beach where time shifts only from dusk to the darkest of night and then back again. In this place, the full moon rises and falls. The jungle flora rustles with a warm and constant breeze and the sound of tropical birds can be heard in the distance. A party is going on and all your friends are there with no worry of the work week returning. This place is Paradise Nocturno.” From the words of DYNOHUNTER themselves, Paradise Nocturno is an escape from reality into jungle-inspired house beats produced by the Boulder trio. Released in mid-June, Paradise Nocturno is the summer night companion for impromptu backyard bonfires, after-hours dance floor get downs and everything in-between. Much like the jungle-inspired exploration Paradise Nocturno takes you on, DYNOHUNTER has faced a challenging but inspiring journey themselves. Forming in 2010, the Boulder-based trio included saxophone and keyboardist Clark Smith and drummer Justin Ehmer. Bassist Fred Reisen was added shortly after. After six years of touring and producing music together, Ehmer passed away from his battle with cancer. Smith and Reisen left a powerful message for their fans, promising to keep the spirit and inspiration of Ehmer alive through their performances and later work. Drummer Nic Thornsberry officially joined the group after Ehmer’s passing to form the DYNOHUNTER we know today. Over the course of the last eight years the band has explored many different styles in the electronic arena, however, there is one notable characteristic found in each piece of work. Without fail, DYNOHUNTER’s sexy house beats will draw you to the dance floor with a tribal-like pull that’s nearly impossible to break from. Starting with the song “Paradise Nocturno” the EP keeps a steady four-on-the-floor beat throughout the work, allowing you to drift off into the nocturnal paradise landscape while the saxophone and synth draw in your attention at just the right moments. There are no classic drops or in-your-face, speaker-shaking bass, instead, DYNOHUNTER trades the tired electronic song formula for an understated yet consistently enjoyable piece of work, reminding us that the dance floor is a marathon, not a sprint. While short and sweet in overall play time, DYNOHUNTER manages to pack plenty of surprises in Paradise Nocturno. EP favorite “Osa” navigates between tropical house beats and Smith’s saxophone prowess for a memorable ending to the piece of work. Throw on Paradise Nocturno on during the next full moon and watch the creatures come out to play. DYNOHUNTER began their Paradise Nocturno tour in May, bringing their piece of the jungle to Colorado festival Sonic Bloom in June and to the rest of the United States in the months to follow. You can catch DYNOHUNTER at Arise Music Festival in Loveland, Colorado in August. If you miss them at Arise, they frequently play at local venues throughout Denver. Make sure to follow them on Facebook so you don’t miss their next appearance.via https://303magazine.com/2018/06/local-listen-6/
