![]() Mind TrickColour Pop Mind Trick Matte Lux Lipstick ($7.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium-dark copper with warm, red undertones and a satin finish. The pigmentation was fantastic with opaque, even coverage that applied comfortably in a fluid stroke. The texture was smooth, velvety, and creamy enough to glide on but not enough to slip into my lip lines. The color wore well for five and a half hours and was non-drying. Top Dupes
Formula Overview$7.00/0.12 oz. - $58.33 Per Ounce The Matte Lux formula is supposed to have a "velvet matte" finish that's "long-wearing" with "intense pigmentation and a soft blurring finish." Most of the shades are quite pigmented with four to six hour wear and a non-drying feel. The texture varied a bit as some shades were smooth, velvety, and thin without emphasizing my lip lines or pulling into them but several separated along my lip lines noticeably or color settled into my lip lines over time. I didn't get much scent from them--possibly subtle sweetness--and no discernible taste. Browse all of our Colour Pop Matte Lux Lipstick swatches. ![]() Check, PleaseColour Pop Check, Please Matte Lux Lipstick ($7.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, medium orange with strong, warm yellow undertones and a satin finish. The color coverage was opaque in a single layer, while the texture was smooth, creamy without being heavy or thick, and comfortable to wear. I didn’t have issues with the texture emphasizing my lip lines like I have had with some of the other shades I tested. This shade stayed on beautifully for five hours and was neither drying nor hydrating over time. Top Dupes

The consistency was lightweight, velvety, and thin without being clingy, which resulted in nearly opaque color coverage that applied without streaking. The three sisters that make up the group (Este, Danielle and Alana Haim) are certified rock stars at this junction in their careers. They’ve got the chops, the songs and the bravado to take on and outdo many of their male fronted-contemporaries. Expelling any narrative that would position them as “good, for a girl,” the sisters are damn good in general. Stopping by Red Rocks Amphitheatre on their “Sister Sister Sister Tour,” the group made an even larger statement. Accompanied by Lizzo and Maggie Rogers opening the performance, HAIM put womanhood on a pedestal making for one of 2018’s most relevant and important tours, demonstrating that girls rock, period. Lizzo, opening the performance, barreled through her set preaching a message of body positivity while taking the audience to the church of the most righteous “thiccness.” Adorned by two backup dancers donning “Single Ladies” styled leotards and her DJ, Lizzo was a powerhouse of an opener — one, that many claimed to have solely bought tickets for. She was sassy and boisterous, making sure the audience knew she was “100% that bitch.” Between twerking on the amphitheaters risers and belting out anthems like “Good as Hell” and “Water Me,” Lizzo received the most welcoming and genuine response to an opener I had ever witnessed. At many points, it felt as though Lizzo were headlining Red Rocks herself, a notion many in the audience picked up on and didn’t mind one bit — except for perhaps Maggie Rogers, who was forced to immediately follow such a performance up. It was hard not to feel a tinge of guilt for the singer. Lizzo absolutely murdered the stage, and Maggie Rogers was tasked with cleaning up the aftermath. By no means a bad performance, however, the electro-folk songs made for a jarring transition from the empowering gospel laden trap anthems that proceeded it. Rogers sang beautifully but the electric atmosphere Lizzo cultivated lingered untouched — an elephant in the amphitheater. Performing many songs off her new album, Rogers made up for lost ground — particularly with the more upbeat numbers toward the latter end of her set. The inclusion of a sneaky Macy Gray cover (“I Try”), sufficiently reengaged the crowd just in time for one of the most beautiful numbers of the night, “Back in My Body.” Without prompt, the amphitheater lit up in a wave of handheld lights, as the singer struggled to sing the song — overcome in the surreal emotion of the moment. It was a moment she’s worked toward her entire life, and at that moment her efforts had come full circle. Saying it was, “the most beautiful thing,” she’d ever seen, there wasn’t an arm without goosebumps. When HAIM eventually took the stage, the energy in the amphitheater had reached its equilibrium again, and the crowd was ready to rock. Bursting out in a flash of white light and banging on a multitude of drums, the women of HAIM were ready to get down to business. Promptly launching into “Falling,” the amphitheater was an amplified chorus of voices singing along to the popular cut. The ladies were sharp and focused, playing a filler-free set that got everyone off their feet. Hilarious sister banter and quips amongst the siblings dotted the set as miniature interludes, giving insight into their songwriting and dynamic as sisters. Between the three, they were all over the place, each one hitting vocal duties, exchanging instruments and even hitting choreographed dance moves. Throughout, the band took the rockstar narrative and played it of their own accord. Reintroducing Lizzo and Maggie Rogers to the stage, all the “sisters” took the stage for a truly wondrous cover of “The Boy Is Mine.” The song featuring Este and Lizzo singing and fighting over Maggie Rogers was a massive hit amongst the crowd, and really demonstrated the respect and adoration the ladies had fostered throughout their tour. Red Rocks being the final stop on the tour, HAIM brought everything and more to the table covering the expanse of Something To Tell You and Days are Gone. However, no moment was more fantastic than when the ladies made their way to the center of the amphitheater, on a platform just above the sound booth, to perform a stripped-down version of “Night So Long” amidst the crowd. All of a sudden, the larger than life band had come close to home, and capped off the night in beautiful fashion. Red Rocks being such a large venue, you lose sight of the delicate intimacy of smaller venues the band’s used to play. Despite the big production of the show and the many rock and roll moments that proceeded, the most badass was bringing it back to the audience and giving their fans something they’d never forget.

It had excellent pigmentation with a smooth, soft, and blendable texture that wasn’t too firmly nor too softly pressed in the pan. I felt that the finish on this shade was less intense and easier to build up on the skin compared to other iterations, while the color feels a little too similar to their permanent range (for someone who may already own a few). The highlighter lasted nicely for eight and a half hours before fading slightly. Top Dupes
Formula Overview$38.00/0.25 oz. - $152.00 Per Ounce The Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed formula is described as having an "ultra-reflective shine" with a "creamy" texture that "applies seamlessly." In general, the texture of the highlighters is incredibly smooth, silky, and finely-milled with frosted to metallic finishes and the occasional more sparkly finish. They tend to have a high-shine, more metallic finish and are a stronger highlighter, so they are going to be best suited to someone who likes an obvious highlight over a very subtle one. That being said, with a fan brush and a deft hand, one could certainly achieve a subtler, all-over luminosity as well, but if one takes a typical, tapered highlighting brush, there will be quite a bit of pigment and highlight on the skin. I find that some shades can emphasize the look of pores slightly to moderately, depending on application. They tend to last between eight to nine hours on me. After graduating, they went their separate paths to work in fashion in different cities. They realized there was a shortage of boutiques in Denver, so the duo decided to combine their East and West Coast style to open Hailee Grace Boutique in Larimer Square. Their goal was to create a Denver staple that is affordable but trendy, and their success in reaching this goal is evident as they have been a boutique hotspot for five years. Their location and social media have played a large part in their success, but their longevity is due to their business savvy, price point and customer service. 303 Magazine: Tell us about the shopping experience at Hailee Grace and how you differentiate your boutique from other stores in Denver. Hailee Satterfield: The store is named obviously after us and the store is like a home away from home, so we want the experience to be very light and fun. We want people to feel good and there’s always no pressure to buy anything. We want people to come out with stuff that makes them feel better. Our store is different to other stores in Denver because of our price point — almost everything is under $120. Grace Buttorff: When we buy, we only buy one pack [of each style] and that’s it usually. We occasionally get a different color if it sold really fast and it is in high demand. 303: How did you start in the fashion industry? HS: After college, I went to Los Angeles for a bit and I worked in fashion for a celebrity stylist. Grace is from Marblehead, Massachusetts and she would always talk about Newberry Street, which is saturated with boutiques. I’m from Denver and I wasn’t raised on boutiques because there wasn’t a lot of them, so Grace said there are all these stores at home, let’s open up a store [in Colorado]. We were 23 at the time, but for us, it was really easy because we have been playing with clothes our whole lives. 303: Congratulations on recently celebrating your fifth anniversary. Looking back, what did you envision when you both decided to open Hailee Grace in 2013? GB: This is actually our second spot — we were downstairs in a 600-square-foot space. We have been in this store for two years, and it was actually our third anniversary when we opened this one. It worked out perfectly. We had to make the move within a month and we flipped the store within three days. It was insane. HS: Larimer trusted us enough because we were doing well and they upgraded us to this spot which was really nice of them. They have been very nurturing to us. 303: Have you seen traffic improve as you moved to a more prime location or would you attribute it to the growth of Denver that brought a stronger clientele? GB: I would say both but I would probably give it more to the spot. When we re-opened, people were so shocked that we were on the block and thought we were a new store opening. It was funny how many people didn’t know us, but we were still really successful. HS: Just being upstairs and having our big blue bag out there makes such a difference. 303: What resources are most invaluable to you for running your business? Has social media played a key role in your success? GB: Social media absolutely drives sales. It’s crazy how many people we’ve had in the last year or two see our Instagram stories asking us [to put items on hold or to send it to them]. It absolutely drives sales and excitement. 303: Describe your personal style and how it relates to the styles at Hailee Grace. GB: We have merged a lot. I definitely think I brought some East Coast [influence] to it. Right now bohemian is really in and it’s fun to play with different things. I think Hailee coming from LA was a good mix of East and West Coast. HS: We spent so much time in Colorado, especially when we opened this store, that we had to keep it a little simple but we’re always overdressed. GB: Denver [customers] like their casual pieces and we have found the best casual brands. With the way we styled the store, you can buy a basic but it really fits nicely. 303: Where do you draw your inspiration for your buying platforms? Do you make joint decisions for buying? GB: I like to say I’m diverse which gives me great inspiration for buying. I get dominant but I could never do it by myself. Hailee has her stuff and I think she’s crazy and no one is going to buy it, and it’s a perfect thing, so it’s a great mix. HS: Our style isn’t that different so if she really wants something I usually trust her and we buy it, and I end up buying it when it comes in. It’s nice that our brains are different because she picks up stuff that I would never, and it ends up being my favorite. One of our rules [is] if you can only wear it out on a Friday night or only a skinny girl can wear it, we can’t buy it. 303: What does your buying platform look like? GB: Five times a year we go to market in LA and they have scheduled times for us to go see the collections. In LA you can also get immediate items, so we bring six huge suitcases with us to bring the clothes back. HS: Each year is different, so we will have more or less inventory it’s nice because, for the most part, we can have the stuff in the store the next day. People know we’re in LA and that’s good hype for us and everyone comes in. 303: What is your favorite thing about running Hailee Grace? What is the most challenging aspect? GB: It is like playing with my best friend all day doing dress up! I totally enjoy making people feel great about themselves wearing new, fun stuff that maybe they wouldn’t have picked that they’re excited about; it’s a good feeling. HB: My favorite thing is being our own bosses together which is pretty amazing. I’ll see people in our stuff or see our bag and I’m freaking out. It’s so cool because people can choose to shop anywhere, but they choose to shop our local boutique. The most challenging aspect is you can never turn it off. 303: What are some of your favorite trends for this upcoming season? What is your least favorite trend at the moment? GB: I’m really over the cold shoulder. I love jumpsuits, culottes and ruffles. I feel like the way they’ve done ruffles lately on the sleeves can be really flattering but not overwhelming. HS: Jumpsuits are my favorite for summer. I love white shoes — white is big this summer — and so many good prints. Grace taught me about prints actually. It’s a very tricky thing picking out prints; that’s Grace’s strong suit. 303: What is your best advice for anyone looking to start their own business in Denver? GB: There’s a lot of boutiques similar to us than there were when we first started out. Location, niche and business planning are important. We were sociology majors so we figured it out. Denver is such a great vibe for the shop local aspect. People really feel strongly about that. 303: What changes have you seen in the Denver fashion industry in the last five years? GB: There are a ton more boutiques. We haven’t changed, but our price has gone up a little bit from when we moved spaces because we picked up a few more expensive brands. It’s not a different business plan, but we can pick more fun and different stuff. It has made us more unique so we can still keep what we had and just add to it. We try to keep it below $120. The tourists are always so shocked at the prices. 303: What do you attribute to your longevity? HS: Our customer service. Our business relationship is also a huge part of our success. Grace and I work really hard. I don’t think I could do this with anyone but Grace, and we’re really good about it, and I think that comes into the store. GB: We have to keep evolving. We can’t stick with brands that aren’t working, so we have to change it up. We have to think of different stuff and we have to think of new social media [ideas]. 303: What makes your customer service unique? HS: Our customers are always right. It’s that mentality. They need to feel like they’re taken care of, and they have a really high expectation of what they expect from us, which is fine, but we always have to keep that bar high because they can shop anywhere. The formula on the mattes felt denser and a bit more substantial compared to past Viseart mattes, and in a way, they did seem more pigmented and swatched as well as they tended to apply on the lid, but some of the shades darkened noticeably on my lid and made it harder to apply them evenly, blend them out, or otherwise retain definition between shades due them darkening so much at times. I would recommend applying this over a primer and using a thicker, heavier layer of primer or concealer that has been powdered over. They took a bit more effort to use together for a cohesive, more blended look than other Viseart mattes have for me in the past (often, Viseart mattes apply better than they swatch, but this palette seemed more consistent between swatches and actual application). I think that when combined with other shades (particular some shimmers), they’ll be easier to use together, too. Here’s a side-by-side comparison of the original Cool Matte palette and the Cool Mattes 2 palette. ![]()

![]() MamacitaMamacita is a soft, medium pink-coral with warm undertones and a metallic finish. It had opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which was easily applied with a dab and blended with a fingertip for sheerer application. It grows. Then they add more melody, more rhythm, more instruments. And suddenly, you have the complex nature that mimics life and a The Dollhouse Thieves album. Planting their musical footprint across the western United States, The Dollhouse Thieves release their debut album on vinyl June 7 at BarFly Denver with opener Jenny Lajoye. The album can currently be found digitally. Founded by Niki and Luke Tredinnick, The Dollhouse Thieves thrive in variety on their vinyl delivery. They are not new to music by any means — having met playing together — but this is their first founded band. They are making the most of it, packing in years of work into a neat, nine-track album. “The album is kind of like a musical representation of our time here in Colorado so far,” Luke said. Wholly within their element, the duo intends to stay local, loving the greater-Denver area and its burgeoning music scene. That intimacy can be felt in the self-titled album. It is road trip music with a flair for the dramatic, with the charm of an acoustic guitar and sturdy vocals far from lost. The music, however, compels the listener to drift, get lost and lean into its beckoning. The song “shadow to your ghost” soulfully moans to the listener, crooning a tune reminiscent of an old song on a rainy day. The heart of it could only be improved with a listen through on vinyl. A record’s sweet scratchiness amplifies the low-fidelity sound graciously, adding ever-more charisma. On “after all, it wasn’t music,” there is a saxophone leading out the gate an upbeat jazz rhythm and morphing the end into a dreamy midnight vibe. Even a xylophone gets a brief guest appearance. “We wanted to showcase a lot of different sounds and themes,” Niki said. “[The album is] based on a lot of things people said to us — our experiences.” ![]() “The Dollhouse Thieves.” Album art by Christine Mariskanish. Their variety blooms on stage. Depending on where they play, friends hop up to play with them and the instruments always keep on rotation. “Sometimes we take requests from the audience, sometimes we’re more regimented,” Luke said. “We try to always keep a level of spontaneity and improvisation.” Niki’s vocals fluctuate from theatre-ready to folk-country twang. The musician, who pitched in plenty of instrumentals as well, makes a theatrical performance out of her voice in “not a soul, not a sound,” breaking up some monotony inherent to the recent folk-revival. Played without vocals, the instrumentality holds enough intrigue to carry the album at a point in music when vocality can break the backbone of a song. The band worked with a plethora of instruments (brass, string, a lone harmonica and more) and friends to bring their self-titled album to fruition. Unexpected for the genre but expected from the band, as the husband and wife team are horn players by trade. via https://303magazine.com/2018/05/dollhouse-thieves-self-titled-album/ Clear your schedules September 14 because Gov’t Mule just announced a Red Rocks show. The jam band legends will return to Denver for three full sets on September 14, and we couldn’t be more excited. Gov’t Mule is no stranger to Red Rocks. They’ve headlined the amphitheater for the past two summers bringing the sounds of multiple genres to those in attendance. From jazzy vibes to hard and southern rock, acoustic guitar and even psychedelic sounds, Gov’t Mule has proven time and time again that not only can they not be categorized, but they can truly play it all. Their 2018 summer tour hosts an opening set by former Allman Brother guitarist Warren Haynes followed by a set of Gov’t Mule and culminating with the only Dark Side of The Mule performance west of the Mississippi. Essentially if you’re a fan of great music, this is not an event to miss. In past years, this beloved jam band has received nothing but praise from concert goers. From performing new productions to renditions of iconic throwbacks — Gov’t Mule brings it every single time and this September 14 at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison will be no different. In addition to the Red Rocks show, Gov’t Mule is also playing Telluride Blues & Brews in September. AXS presale is May 31 at 10 a.m. and ticket will be available here.via https://303magazine.com/2018/05/govt-mule-red-rocks-september/ Benefit Gold Rush Box o’ Powder![]() ![]() via https://www.temptalia.com/top-dupes-for-benefit-gold-rush/ |
